2000 Izuzu Rodeo V6 4x4. My key is stuck in the ignition, it will turn the car on, but it won't let me turn the key back far enough to release the key. I am scared that my car will get stolen, or that it kill my battery. Also I noticed that when I put the car in park, it "feels" different, like its not going into park all the way...I wonder if that has anything to do with it not releasing my key?? HELP ME!!!
Thanks for the advice about the cable. I reached under the steering column, pulled cable towards ignition, and voila! Key turned to off and came out. THANK YOU! This just goes along with the gas gauge that doesn't work on this car....
Okay i had the same problem hope this finds you. Well alot of people say there is a wire under the dash it's black and stiff. This wire runs under the steering wheel to the gear box. If youe have an automatic. You have to turn the hard off put into park. On the shifter nob is the release button you have to push it in and let it go very fast so it snaps out. It worked for me the first time but now i have to play with it a bit. push it in and snap it back out. you have to have on hand on the key and the other on the release button do this till the key releases for the ignition. Hope this help might not be perment fix but it will release the key.
Underneath the dash there will be a cable running along the steering column and turning towards the center of the dash. Take this cable and push it towards the steering wheel while turning the key. It will have to be taken to a garage to have the cable adjusted and or tightened but don't pay more than a half an hour of labor. There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) that will tell them how to do it. Don't get talked into a new Ignition Lock Cylinder/Switch!
There are two possible solutions/reasons. The first has to do with your steering column. This wire from the shifter knob to your steering column uses a bracket. On my Rodeo, the screw came loose and I had to rescrew in this bracket and place the wire jacket into it. In order to look for this, you have to remove the kick panel and the lower panel of your dash and then the plastic around your steering console to expose the key bracket. The second part is that due to time, the wire has become slightly stretched and you need to adjust the tension of it. To do this, you have to remove the center console around the shifter knob (first you have to remove the center console and the dash cover around the radio). After the console around the shifter knob has been removed, you should see a black plastic bracket with a black letter "T" on it in which the wire goes through. The part of the plastic bracket with the "T" can be removed and the wire housing can be adjusted and then the bracket with the "T" reinstalled to set the new adjustment. I know you have to be a little mechanical savvy to use these directions, but should give a general idea what to look for.
2000 isuzu Rodeo LS (automatic) Key stuck in ignition? Try this:
1) make sure shift lever is in park.
2) diconnect battery
3) hold shift lever buttton in and turn key towards you (lock position) and release button!! It worked for me and as the person who provided similar information on this web site...THANK YOU Richard N.
ps I saved a couple of hundred dollars from (2) locksmiths!!
Hi there I am a mechanic and very good!!! What I am going to tell you you need to do it bc one day soon the truck not going start or go off you've been fighting with it! OK first when you pulled down on cable I let you get the key if so you have retaining pin and hook that is bout to break from the Colo. If you are drive to the wheel drive the car is going to be in ur lap and you can going to rack the car I don't want to see you hurt bc no one knows bout it or don't care about it but as a tech master mechanic I feel like I have to tell you and the key not coming out is the ignition switch but I would do lock and key too I pray that you do what I told you God bless you and good luck
There is a release button on the other side under the steering wheel to release the key
A bit late to the game, but I hope this will help someone in the future.
As others suggested, push the cable toward the steering wheel will help you get your key out, but to fix it for good, you need to take some covers off, and do some simple operations.
This is a relative easy task, you will spend most of your time removing (and reinstalling) covers, the actual "fix" will take only a couple minutes, but to take all the covers off, will take you about 15 - 30 minutes.
There are two parts in this bulletin, the first part you'll remove the driver's knee board, and steering column covers to inspect the cable slider; the second part you have to remove the whole center console covers, and adjust the "T" Clip.
Here is the link to the bulletin:

i'd assume in most cases, the culprit is the "T" clip in the gear shift box, which in my case, the tab on the T clip got stuck in the piece in front of it, so I pried it out and pushed it back in, that fixed the problem.
Here is the picture of the clip (99 Honda Passport, center console cover removed, looking in from driver's side)

My key is stuck in the ignition and wont come out, I have tired everything, I dont know what to do and cant afford an mechanic.
That worked Thanks very much for the advise.
My key is stuck in the ignition i cant turn the car on or take it out
Well in order to take out your key you have to be in (P)arking mode otherwise if you turn off your car and try to take off your key it won't work. Sometimes you have to push in the key or push and turn in the key and turn it a little to the left in order to take it out.

my brother and father have tried every jiggle and wiggle they could. :(
i have a 2002 isuzu rodeo se with the exact same problem. well, its been stuck for months. it killed the battery, so we had to park the truck since june so it wont get stolen. can drive something if the key doesnt come out!!!
I have a'98 Rodeo that recently had that same problem. I called our local mechanic and got told "need a new ignition switch". I called around to acquire the part (I live in a very small town, so I have to order my own parts, or wait 2-3 weeks) While I was calling on prices, my hubby tore apart the center console (part of the dash also) and found a button that would actually RELEASE the "Park" so that we could get the key out. Now we have to jiggle the key, a lot!, to get the key to turn the vehicle on. But at least we are able to take the key in at night (for now)
same problem with an isuzu rodeo 2001 key stuck in the ignition
what about if a small portion of the key is still stuck in the ignition? How do I know if the locksmith is not going to cauge the price for this job?
