I have a 2001 Mitsubishi eclipse(2.4L) that will start and idle but when you put it in drive/reverse and take off you will hear a whistling sound and if you don't keep your foot on the gas it dies. Thought my iacv went bad again but you can turn the heat/ac on and it will kick the rpms up and drive perfect. What in the world is wrong with it?

Probably a vacuum hose off. Have someone sit in the car that knows how to drive. Parking brake on, put in reverse and track the sound down. You can put a length of 1/4" plastic hose in your ear and use it as a stethoscope. Be VERY careful if you go behind the vehicle.

now yes, i will take the transmission is fubar into consideration but theres an .....however... idk about my cv joint, my car ONLY would make a loud ping noise when i move from a stop or brake ..... almost always when i put it into reverse. such as an engine mount sound, ... Clean the inside of the throttle body as best you can. also the idle air control motor.

The slip disks in your automatic transmission and some synchronizers are worn out. Your transmission needs to be overhauled and repaired.

sounds like fuel filter or pump.

You'll have to find the source of the leak to find out what went bad. It almost sound like a line going to the transmission cooler, but you could have a hole in the transmission casing. See if you can put it on a jack and figure out where it's leaking from.

It sounds like you have a vaccum leak to the engine. with the engine running at idle listen to see if you can hear a hissing noise especially around the intake manifold

I think you ought to change your oil, and when you do that, buy a can of Seafoam that can be found at your local auto store and dump it down the hole where the oil goes so it can get all in the crank case. If you see white smoke for a little bit dont freak out, its just carbon build up thats burning off. Also have your timing checked.
