SOURCE: How do I remove steering column covers to be able

You can't get the ignition switch out until it is in the run position so you you should spray a lubricant in in to see if it will free up.The key needs to be in the run position and the have a small punch inserted in a hole near the front of the lock to unlock and remove it.The steering column cover comes off after locating and removeing all the screws that are in counter sunk holes in the plastic.

I have had trouble starting my Chevy blazer 2001, before it would feel like the ignition would get stuck, now the key won't turn either way and the steering wheel is locked and I can't turn it on

Try turning the steering wheel hard in each direction while trying to turn key. Wheel lock may be holding key. If not, sounds like you need to replace ignition lock cylinder or the ignition switch. Good luck, DW

Key won't come out of ignition on 1999 vw jetta

IGNITION KEY WILL NOT RELEASE

It can be faulty ignition lock cylinder. I suggest to wiggle the steering wheel a bit and see if the key gets released out. If that is not helping then first turn steering wheel to right and try removing the key, or next turn steering wheel to left and see if you can remove the key.

----------

Spray wd-40 in the ignition key hole and let it remain there for few minutes, after that once again try to remove the key and see if that helps.

---------

But if that is not helping then ignition lock cylinder has to be removed out and key has to be manually removed.

Cranks and then goes dead

First check your fuel pressure it should be 41-47 psi with key on and engine off if its below 32 psi replace the fuel pump and filter. If fuel pump checks out to be good then take ignition switch out and check for burned ignition switch wires and worn ignition key tumblers and ignition lock cylinder. These cars are known for faulty ignition switches and ignition lock cylinders.Ignition switch gets to hot then it won't start until it cools off.

The car will turn over but won`t start but if I turn the key on and jump the starter it starts

Sounds like the ignition switch has gone kaput. The ignition switch come in two pieces, an electrical switch and a mechanical switch.

The switch electrical portion can be replaced separatly from the mechanical portion (tumbler that the key engages). It is not a real difficult repair but requires some mechanical knowlege of how the column is assembled.

This can be verified with electrical test equipment prior to buying a new electrical switch.

Key locked in ingetion and unable to get it out also wipers and cruse control dont work have to unhook the battery to get it to stop when i hook the batery up again the car will automatily start

sounds like key cylinder getting stuck.happens after a lot of rabbit starting.parts inside the cylinder(chambers) tend to stick out and keep the key stuck in and doesnt release.also mechanic inside cylinder might be worn down or broken causing the key not to turn back all the way on ignition rod or switch.sollution replace key cylinder first.it should fix you problem.but if it doesnt shut of prob is also the ignition switch.located connected on steering colum lower right side.hope that helps.let me know how it goes.
