Its been sitting for awhile and I got a new battery for it and put 5 bucks of gas in it. now when I try to start the car it acts like it but doesnt fire. if we take off the air filter that goes to the front of the engine and put our hand over the hole and work our hand it will actually start but wont stay running

SOURCE: firing order, 1990 Pontiac Grand am 2.5 l, 4 cyl

Its 1342 or 1432 To guarantee correct firing order take plugs out and place your finger/thumb over the plug hole so you can feel the compression cycle.Have some one flick the key on and off slowly .As soon as No 1 has done its compression cycle the next cylinder to compress will be in the firing order. You only need to test 2 clinders to tell you which one of the two firing orders ive given you.good luck and let me know how it goes

Live in Saskatchewan, car froze. Tried boosting it, tried plugging it in overnight, put gas in it. Could be the fule pump, (fuel lines) but i dont know where these things are located on a 04 Pontiac Granm...

Get some gasline de-icer and put into the gas tank and leave it sit for awhile. Will the engine turn over? Put a trickle charge on the battery and make sure it is at full charge. If the battery is low it may be frozen. Take it inside . thaw it out then charge it on slow charge.

My 2003 sunfire wont start. Tried charging the battery, still wont start. (It's really cold outside) It does have command start (could that be the problem?)

If it is turning over but not starting, I would put it in a warm garage and let it thaw out for awhile or out gasline antifreeze in the gas tank and let sit for couple of hours turning the key on periodically to pump gas into libes with the deicer because it sounds like a frozen gas line. Let me know if we need to go further

I have a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am SE. Have had periodic problems starting.Battery seems fine and someone told me it may be the fuel pump which is supposedly in the gas tank.(big money replacement job) Or...

your car would struggle at high speeds if it was the fuel pump.

Go to a mechanic, I can't stress this enough, and get a full systems check. Basically the mechanic pulls out this mini computer lookin device and hooks it up to your engine and tells you everything that is wrong. It's 50-80 bucks. Well worth it.

Try engine cleaner (put into a full tank of gas) or a tune up would do nothing but help.

96 grand prix 3.1 got fuel to rail brand new pump wont start, starts for 3 3 to 4 seconds then quites, and then back fires

replace your fuel filter and buy Z MAX (only thing i trust) fuel and engine system restore ( about 35 bucks at any auto store but so worth it). what has happend is the fuel in the tank is dirty or carmalized, basically the car had been sitting for a while and the fuel seperated in your tank. normal conventional gas is not strong enough to break down deposits. and when you replace your fuel pump, make sure the whole wiring harness or the actuall fuel pump harness is replace. other wise you keep blowing your fuel pump and/ or keep backfiring

1996 5 speed honda accord. sat for a year. put in new battery. everything lights up, but car wont start. never had previous problem.

Are you saying the car turns over (cranks) but it does not start? Or, the car is Not turning over?
If it is cranking over but not starting, and it ran fine before sitting for the year, it may be water/moisture in the gas. Try some dry gas, and/or Carb-fuel injection cleaner in your gas tank.
