Front Cowling, under the hood

I need to change out the battery and VW made everything like a puzzle. I have been told that the cabin air filter is under that panel and need to change it. The dealer wants an arm, leg and rights to my first born to do the job which should not be out of my ability to do. The cover is plastic and I don't want to just grab somewhere and rip it out. Can you help

Bill I'm not sure if you've already replaced your battery but it's a relatively easy job. To remove the plastic cover you first must remove the weather strip that runs along the inner edge of the plastic, that just peels right off ( the installation is just as easy as the removal), the plastic cover should now be able to be worked out from underneath the hood. Once that's out you will see your cabin air filter to the right and the batter in the center of the car. If it's an OEM battery you will see a vent hose connected to it on the right side of the battery, ensure you remove both the hose and the small fiter that's inserted in the battery. Remove the battery leads and keep them out of the way as much as possible. Once that's done you will have to locate the retaining bolt and plate found at the front corners of the battery, once removed the battery is free for removal. It's a heavy battery and it's also a tight fit, being that it's on the center line of the car it will be a little tough on your back. So if you have a bad back, I would not recomend doing it yourself.
Yorky63051 got an awesome deal on the battery change, being that an aftermarket replacement battery cost $90, $120 including labor and parts is and awesome deal. By the way you don't need to removed the wiper arms or blades

I had my battery changed at the dealer. $120 includes the battery. I do know all that plastic pannel has to come off, including the wiper blades complete.

Water coming on rug possible ac drain line where is it located

How To Change Your Cabin Air Filter

If you have gone to an auto shop you probably were in shock when the mechanic said you needed a cabin air filter and it was going to run anywhere from $50-$70 to replace. The filter itself is cheap. $5-$20. Your cabin air filter is going to be either behind your glove box or under the hood if you have an audi or VW. Simply open the glovebox and push in the sides so it becomes unhooked and you will see a rectangle door. Pop it open and you will see your cabin air filter. And simply reverse the steps putting the new one in!. If its a VW or Audi its at the top left of your hood if you are looking under the hood. Again there should be a box. open and replace! Happy motoring!!

1996 Jetta leaks water on the right front floor panel when it rains. I can't see any leaks around the windows or windshield, seems to be coming from under the dashboard and gets on top of the rubber floor...

Also check the fender drains. If they get clogged up the water will spill over into the air intake for the cabin. May have to remove to hood cowling the plastic under the wipers. The inspect from debris and if you have air hose blow the drain and vent out.

Where is the location of the cabin filter replacement.

If your vechicle is equipped with this option, the filter is located under the hood below the plastic cowling just forward of the front windshield on the passenger side..
To replace, remove the 4 clips on the front edge of the cowling and remove, then remove the (2 screws) inner cover to gain access to the filter.

Strong fuel smell in cabin. 2005 Nissan. 2005 Quest. Any solutions?

Well first if you smell gasoline don't start the vehicle, check the entire fuel system locate the filter and check for leaking, also this vehicle uses a cabin filter to filter incoming air to the passenger compartment, locate this filter and replace it. there located sometimes behind the glove box door, or under the front cowling under the hood, in that space just under the wipers, If you can't find the solution and the smell persists, you need professional help ( with the car)

Where is the cabin filter located

The cabin air filter is located directly underneath the cowling at the base of the windshield on the passenger side of the car.
To access the cabin air filter, you will need to remove the cowling. First, open and lift the hood. Second, locate two plastic pins securing the plastic cowling at the base of the front windshield, on the passenger side. One is located under the wiper blade, near its base. Use a small screwdriver or similar tool to carefully lift/pop up two plastic pins securing the cowling, taking care not to damage the plastic pins. (You want to lift the pins, and not the anchors that look like washers beneath the heads of the pins. Carefully pull the plastic pins and their plastic anchors (once you pull the pin up, you can safely remove the anchor). Take caution not to damage the pins and anchors as you will need them to rescure the cowling when you are finished replacing the cabin air filter.
Before you remove the cowling, carefully pull back the rubber gasket and windshield washer fluid tubing at the base of the cowling. You can now safely remove the cowling, and you will see the cabin air filter below.
Remove the old cabin air filter and replace it with a new filter.
Reverse this process to reinstall the cowling, gasket, and pins once you have replaced the filter.

Where is the cabin air filter located at and how do i get to it.

It will either be behind your glove box, or will be located under your hood by the firewall.

    Behind the Glove Compartment
  1. Open the glove compartment and remove all the items from inside of it.
  2. Remove the glove compartment assembly retainer screws with a Phillips head screwdriver. Refer to the repair manual for your specific year and model series BMW for the exact location of the screws or carefully look around the perimeter of the interior glove box assembly to locate the screws.
  3. Locate the lower trim panel retaining screws behind the glove box assembly. Remove the screws with a Phillips head screwdriver and then remove the panel.
  4. Remove the foot-well air duct.
  5. Loosen the retaining screws of the control module box to all you to lower it down.
  6. Turn the cabin air filter panel retaining knob counterclockwise to open the panel. Pull the filter removal tab outward to remove the filter.
  7. Use a shop vac to clean out any noticeable debris from the cabin air filter housing interior.
  8. Insert the new filter and reverse the order to reassemble the foot-well air duct, the trim panel and the glove compartment assembly.
  9. Under the Hood
  10. Open the hood and locate the cabin air filter housing. The housing is located near the cowling on the top section of the firewall. Some models place the housing in the middle of the cowling, on both sides--left and right--of the cowling or on the passenger side cowling. Removal of the cowling and placing the windshield wipers in the upward position may also be required on certain models. Some 7-Series BMWs place the filter housings on both the left and right side undercarriage of the hood.
  11. Release the cabin air filter duct clamp. This can either be released by unclipping the air filter duct by pressing a retaining lock with your fingers or using a flathead screwdriver to pry off a retaining rod.
  12. Lift the cover upward--or downward on hood-installed 7-Series BMWs--to reveal the cabin air filter.
  13. Remove the cabin air filter from the air duct. Vacuum the air duct with a shop vac.
  14. Insert the new cabin air filter(s) and reassemble.

Replace cabin pollen filter 2005 jaguar xkr

To get to the cabin air filter on an XK8 or XKR, you have to do the following steps (I know these steps sound ridiculous...as in many cars there is just a simple cover in the engine compartment... but...): The air filter is under the black plastic cowl or plenum that is just under the windshield wiper blade connectors. To get to that, you must 1. carefully lift off the plastic covers that reveal screw heads. Remove the screws. 2. lift off the plastic covers that are on the top of each windshield wiper connector - under the cover you will then see a nut or bolt that has to be unscrewed. 3. Using a small puller (the puller that lifts off battery terminals works for this) lift off each windshield wiper and disconnect the rubber hose from each. 3. lift the car's front hood, and remove the plastic cowling (you also have to lift the side rubber runners and a rubber strap from each side that holds up the rubber drain hoses). Once you remove that plastic cowling, you will see the air filter plenum at the back of the engine area. The air filter should come vertically out of that. (This air filter does not exist on my 2000 and earlier editions...I am not sure what year Jaguar installed them.) Full instructions are on the Jaguar JTIS CD which you should obtain...look online for that.

Air conditioning system musty smell when used

There should be a cabin filter. Call the parts store to see if they stock one for your car in particular.

Cabin filters are located in stream of the outside air flowing in. I know on a '99 Galant, you just had to take out the glove box, loosen two screws, and out she slid.

It'll be right near the blower motor, above the passenger's foot rest, behind the glove box. Simple hand tools will do it.

Be careful when pulling it out, as it may have leaves and acorns or fur all over it. Simply slide in the new filter and you're done.

You'll be surprised at how much better it'll smell, and how much harder your A/C and heat will blow without the constriction of a dirty filter.

Most cars have the cabin filters behind the glove box, but if not there, then they'll have them under the hood, on the firewall, on the passenger side. Usually inside a small black plastic box.

If your car DOESN"T have a cabin filter, then the musty smell is stuff that is sitting in the heat/ AC system. You can try spraying pine sol or Febreeze down the air intake hole for the system. Mind you, this is not the same as the air intake for your cars engine!

The air intake for the cabin filter will be on the passenger side, under the hood, most likely under a plastic cowling of sorts.

Good luck!
