1988 Accord hard starting

I have an 88 accord fuel injected. When it is cold it fires right up but shortly after it has been running it starts hard. Seems like it is over carburating. It is fuel injected...I had a suggestion that it could be the power valve or the fuel pump. Any direction?

My boyfriend's 88 Honda Accord will start up great when it is cold, but if you shut it off and come back and try to start it up again 10 minutes later, it just doesn't want to. He thinks it's the alternator, but what do we know?

Possibility your distributer is on its way out...the cam sensor in it gets hot and isnt sending the correct info...same with the coil ...cech for spark and fuel on next hard start

Engine will run 2-3 min, shut down and hard to start, its like there is air in the system, if i block of the return line from the injection pump it will run, but run rough. 88 f250 7.3

sounds like injector pump or filter is plugged, or if real cold, maybe fuel heater is not working

1996 Honda Accord cranks and starts sometimes. It

It is the fuel pump relay and I replaced mine on my 1988 accord. That one was above the kick panel on the drivers side about a foot and a half up. not easy to get to. Having the new one helped identify the old one. Now an 88 is 8 years from a 96 and I can't tell you exactly where yours is but mine did that too and the new one fixed it. I took the old one apart and you could see the bad contacts. HTH PS Laid off too.

the MAIN RELAY is a pretty big problem on these. I'm not saying thats your problem, but I would start there.

I have a 88 honda accord . it gets spark. but no gas to the injectors . sometimes it will start but only run for a few minutes . if i spray it with gas it will run . if i hot wire the fuel pump it kicks...

It doesn't have fuel if you have to hot wire the fuel pump. Check the fuel pump relay

yes switch is bad replace it pull cover off from around steering collum should be screws holding it on you may haveto pull steering wheel but haven't done one in solong i can't remember

88 Honda Accord: No power to fuel pump.Ignition good.

Use a muiltimeter to seek out the short or break in the power side of the dc circuit. Clearly the power side from the pump back to the ignition is the issue. An alternate method would be to run a fresh lead from switch to pump. Bypassing the old one. Severe it at both ends and you should be set.

Sometimes my 92 accord won't start.

sounds like your fuel pump may be going out or you may have a clog in your fuel line. i would first replace the fuel filter because that is cheap ( like 10 bucks) then i would see if that does it - if not then i would replace the fuel pump.

1988 Honda won't start

the problem is most likely the fuel pump has seized up, the reason for this is when u run out of gas the pump which uses the gas around it to cool gets very hot and the bearings seize up, get this kink of complaint all the time on fixya.
