My oil light came on, car cut out, put oil in then the oil light stayed on. Then i drove and the car cut out completely. My husband did a oil service but the car does not want to start. What could be the problem.

I have already a solution to my problem. Remember, when I posted, that my 1997 VW Polo Classic, that it won't start even it has sparks coming from the "spark plugs" and the timing was set already. Yesterday, My mechanic was puzzled, why the intake manifold has a very low pressure. Just this morning when he opened. It was clogged with "tartar" like material. It includes the valve & piston. Therefore, it is impossible to have combustion. Because, it lacks the fuel & air even how much sparks is present. I hope this could help to VW cars owners having the same trouble.
I had similar problems with a 2000 Polo Classic - mainly in wet weather - and on the advice of a more knowledable friend I took the car to an auto electrician who replaced something noted on the invoice as a "Regulator" for EUR 43 plus EUR 35 labour and I haven't had the same problem since... Ok hendrina834, 1st thing to check is the oil level when the car is off and on a level surface. Pull out the dipstick, wipe it off w/ a clean rag, reinsert, pull out and check the level. If the oil light goes on and the car is still running, always pull off the road as soon as safely possible, and turn the car off. If the light is functioning properly, it means u have no oil pressure. Adding oil before checking the level isn't a good idea because you may overfill it, and that is bad for your engine, as is a low level. As u can see by the events u describe, adding the oil didn't affect the oil light, so most likely you had no oil pressure. When u turn the key what happens? Does the engine turn over, but fail to start, or does nothing at all happen? Please reply to the above questions, I am wondering if the engine is seized, but I need to know more. countrycurt0
Ok the good thing is your engine isn't seized, now u must check for spark. The easiest way to do this is take a spark plug wire off, plug another spark plug into it (this saves u from removing a plug), lay the plug and wire on a metal surface of the engine, have someone turn the key to try and start it while u watch to see if there is spark at the end of the plug. If u can do it in the shade, or drape a blanket over the hood to make it darker, it will be easy to see if the plug is firing. Don't touch the plug as the key is on and engine cranking. I have the same problem. My car died on me while driving. No oil pressure light came on. I coasted into a rest stop. When I got out of the car I smelled strong odor of gas and oil level was extremely low close to empty. I added a couple cans of oil and tried to start it but it wouldn't. The engine would turn, but it wouldn't start. However it did start a few times but it wouldn't stay on for more than a few seconds. I hope its not seized. Please help me anyone!!!!!!
