How do i remove serpentine belt? - 2005 Dodge Caravan

There are belt tensioners and there are serpentine belts not sure what a tensioner belt is. You do not have to have a belt tensioner on a motor to remove a serpentine belt.

I presume the serpentine belt is in the way. First, disconnect the battery terminal. Then make sure the serpentine belt diagram is readable and remove the serpentine belt. Then release the tension on the alternator belt and remove all the bolts and wiring.

2 Pull the belt tensioner off the belt with the serpentine belt tool. Reach in with your free hand and slip the belt out of the tensioner's path and then slowly move the tensioner back into position.

You'll need a Serpentine Belt Tool and a socket set.

Rotate the Caravan's serpentine belt tensioner assembly clockwise to relieve the tension on the belt. Slip the belt off the tensioner with your free hand before rotating the tensioner back to its home position. Remove the tool.
Extract the two mounting bolts that hold the serpentine belt tensioner assembly to the Caravan's front engine cover using your socket set. Depending on your physical size and dexterity, you may find this easier to accomplish through the top of the engine well or through the passenger-side wheel well.
Pull the old serpentine belt tensioner assembly out of the Caravan's engine bay by hand. Place the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly on the Caravan's front engine cover and bolt it in using your socket set.
Rotate the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly clockwise with the serpentine belt tool and then place the belt on the pulley by hand. Rotate the new serpentine belt tensioner assembly back into place. Remove the tool and close the hood.

Turn the adjustment bolt counterclockwiseto remove the serpentine belt. This bolt is located under the water pump hose.Remember how you remove the belt so that you can reroute the new beltcorrectly. Install the new serpentine belt by securingit on the pulleys in the same route as the old belt. Check the belt routing onthe underside of the hood to make sure you get it right. Create tension in the back of the belt byturning the adjustment bolt clockwise. Check that the belt is on each pulleyproperly. The belt should be centered on each pulley, not on the edge.Tightenthe lock nut to secure the serpentine belt in place.

2.8L and 3.1L Air Pump Belt

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Loosen the air pump.
3. Remove the worn belt.

To install:

1. Adjust the belt to specifications and tighten the pump mounting bolts.
2. Connect the negative battery cable.

2.3L Power Steering Belt

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Loosen the adjustment bolts.
3. Remove the power steering belt from the pulley.

To install:

1. Route the belt around the pulley.
2. Adjust the belt to specifications, then tighten the adjustment bolts.
3. Connect the negative battery cable.

Remove the belt guard or coolant recovery reservoir as required.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air intake duct from throttle body extension.
3. Using a 1/2 inch ratchet, retract serpentine drive belt tensioner.
4. Lift belt rearward, off water pump pulley, then remove belt from vehicle.
5. Reverse procedure to install. Refer to Fig. 29 for serpentine belt routing.

1. 1 Check to ensure the Sienna's engine is cold, then make sure the Sienna is in park, the ignition is in the off position and the key is removed from the ignition to prevent any possibility of the engine engaging during the serpentine belt replacement.
   
2. 2 Open the hood and locate the serpentine belt routing diagram sticker on the side of the engine casing. Study it for a moment before removing the existing belt. It is essential the new belt be installed exactly as the diagram indicates.
   
3. 3 Find the tensioner pulley, the main pulley that controls the serpentine belt, and fit a 1/2-inch socket wrench over the self-tensioner on the outside of the pulley.
   
4. 4 Pull the wrench to the left to move the pulley forward, which loosens the belt, then remove the belt.
   
5. 5 Compare the old serpentine belt with the new, replacement belt for length, width and number of grooves on the belt's underside. Be certain the replacement belt is the right part.
   
6. 6 Fit the new belt on to each pulley according to the serpentine belt routing diagram on the manufacturer's sticker, or according to the drawing made prior to removing the old belt. Fit the new belt on to the tensioner pulley last, again applying pressure on the pulley's self-tensioner with the half-inch socket wrench to loosen the pulley.
   
7. 7 Release the pressure on the self tensioner and allow the tensioner pulley to ease back into place, thereby tightening the new serpentine belt with the appropriate tension.
   
8. 8 Remove the wrench and close the hood.

Removal & Installation

1. Remove the air filter housing assembly bolts and the air intake tube.
2. Remove the air filter housing assembly from the vehicle.
3. Use a wrench to turn the tensioner bolt clockwise, compressing the tensioner, and releasing the tension on the serpentine accessory drive belt.
4. Remove the serpentine accessory drive belt.

To install:

1. Use a wrench to turn the tensioner bolt clockwise, compressing the tensioner, and releasing the tension on the serpentine accessory drive belt.
2. With the wrench in place on the tensioner bolt, loop the serpentine accessory drive belt loosely over the pulleys.
3. Slip the belt over the tensioner.
4. Remove the wrench from the tensioner bolt and the belt will tighten itself.
5. Install the air filter housing assembly into the vehicle.
6. Install the air intake tube and the air filter housing assembly bolts.
7. Tighten the air filter housing assembly bolts to 53 inch lbs. and nm
