This light should turn off if you replace the pads with pads that have the indicator wire on them. The light truns on when you wear the pads down to the wires and the wires break and cause an open circuit that turns on the light. If your new pads have the wires and are installed correctly, the light should turn off by itself.

One method describes just turning the key to position 2 and giving it about 30 seconds and that it will reset on its own. A manual method is described here:

SOURCE: abs light on

They had to disconnect the abs in order to change the pads so it set off the abs light. you can just drive for a while and it might go away or you can disconnect the battery for 10 seconds but be careful the car player might ask for the code in order to play it.

SOURCE: Peugeot 405 SRi: brake pad warning light came on;

Hi Chris
Is there plenty of fluid for the nrakes? they should have little wires coming from the brake pads , normally once you have replaced the pads this light would go out automatically.

It may not be your pads that triggered the light.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: how do i reset the worn brake pad warning light on

it cannot be reset. there is a sensor on one of the brake pads which has a connector on it and the connector plugs into wires on the car. if the pads that are on it don't have the electrical sensors in them, cut off the end of the connector on the vehicle and connect the two wires. this will turn off the light. don't worry, no damage will be done by permanently connecting those two wires.

2014 Ghibli. If I replace brake pads and discs does brake warning light turn off by itself or need to be reset?

If you're talking about brake pads that have an electrical connector..
the warning light comes on when the pad is so worn that it allows the electrical connector to earth via the disk .. hence the warning light.

Fitting new pads will not cause a warning light on your dashboard. No reset required.

HOW DO I RESET MY BRAKE PAD LIGHT ON 2005 MERCEDES BENZ SL500

Hi,

Typically you cannot "reset" the light. The light illuminates when it becomes grounded, via a small wire pushed into the brake pad itself. The only repair is to replace the brake pads, (turn/replace the rotors) and replace however many sensors are damaged.

Save money next time and inspect/replace before you ruin the sensors...

Brake pad wear indicator light does not go off at the dash after changing rotors brake pads and the sensor in the front wheels all pads and rotors and the sensor is ok at rear. the vehicle has only 30000...

Did you change the sensor? if you did, do a battery reset (disconnect for 10 to 20 min.).

Obviously the wear sensor has made contact with the rotor and is already damaged. You're not even suppose to resuse the wear pad sensor if its worn or damaged anyways. The way how the sensor works is that it must make contact to the rotor to complete the wear pad light indicator circuit. There is no mentioning that he replaced the the wear pad sensor with a new one.

But if one did replaced the wear pad sensor and the wear pad indicator is lit up, the way to reset it is to leave the key on in ignition switch #2 or #1 for about 30sec. turn it off and its reset.

Its possible that you forgot to replace the brake light sensors. They are about 15 bucks, and have to be replaced in order for that light to turn off. You can either get them from the dealer where they'll likely charge you 3 times as much, or you can go to http://www.turnermotorsport.com and get them there.

You have to reset the light by leaving the ignition switch on position #2 for about 30 sec. turn off the ignition and start the engine up and see if it goes out. I recommend buying a new wear pad sensor as well because now light will lit up when you're way below spec (less than 3mm)

Also, you could try with this procedure for one E39: Turning off the Check Brake Linings warning on the Instrument Cluster...
- so you've just changed the brake pads on your E39, along with the wear sensors. The old sensor(s) needed replacement cause you waited a bit too long before changing the pads, and wore through the sensor(s), turning on the BRAKE light on the dash. But wait, the light is still on? But there's a new sensor installed... what gives?!
- there is a procedure required in order to turn off the light/warning. With the ignition off, step on and hold the brake pedal. Now, while holding the brake pedal down, turn on the ignition switch to position 2 (just before cranking). Hold the brake pedal until the BRAKE light is off. Tada, the warning is gone and reset.

NOTE: This procedure worked on a 2001 E46 325i. It took about 15-20 seconds, but it cleared out w/o having to unhook the battery.

How to reset brake light after changing pads.

Hi Peters6709,
Sorry to tell you, but you need to replace the pad-wear sensors as well. They are the little trapezoid pieces that hang inside the tops of the inside pads. They should run about $10 each. Once replaced, disconnect the battery completely for about 10 minutes, if you have a stock radio keep the code handy.

Next time check the pads every 10-12K miles. I have been running the SAME pad wear sensors on my Z3 for the past 2 pad changes now after making the same mistake the first time.

Best of luck!

Bmw 1 serise require information on how to rest

turn on the ignition (not starting) and then press the littlie button in front of the odometer display for 10 seconds until you see the service indicator menu. use the stalk on the left and the up and down control to scroll thru to the front and rear brake pad picture and then press the end button on the stalk for 3 seconds until reset comes up, then it will show a little click spinning around, then release and press for another 3 seconds. This will extinguish the brake service light. This is the same for all service lights, but remember to turn off the ignition on and off for each reset Ie: for brake, for oil, for pollen etc. If not it might not recognize the reset. The pads on the 116i or should I say the indicator is crapo, in a extra crapo sense as it has at least 10k miles on the pad but the wear indicator shows it as need replacing, The handbrake light on symbol will be amber then red and stay on all the time until the sensor and pads are changed. Pads and sensor must be replaced together as sensor has resistance built into it it will be around 500ohms ( I think) when it has just touched and less with more wear, the new sensor is probably 1k ohms from each wire ie from one wire to the other = 1k ohms.In short the pad wear indicator is a rip off, there is a lot of life left in the pad when the sensor goes off. I estimate just above 1/3 left but more like just below 1/2.... BMW STICKING TO YOU AGAIN.

I replaced the front pads on a VW JETTA 2.5 and the check pads light is on. How can I reset the check pads light?

As the brake pads wear, the brake pad wear sensor contained in the brake pad contacts the brake rotor. This causes the sensor to fail. When a pad wear sensor fails it opens the ground circuit of the pad wear warning light system causing the pad wear warning light to illuminate. Perform normal brake service to correct this condition and be sure to replace the brake pads with pads containing wear sensors. Once the brake pads and wear sensors are replaced, reset the brake pad warning system by turning the ignition switch to the "on" position. As long as continuity to ground exists through all the brake pad wear sensors the system should reset and the pad warning light in the dash will go out. If the pad warning light does not go out, a check of the pad warning circuit for an open circuit condition or poor ground must be performed.

BRAKE WARNING LIGHT

I dunno if this will work on your BMW, but on my BMW Z3 and M3, it was....

Turn the ignition key to position 2, but do NOT start the car. Wait for about 45 seconds and the brake warning message will be reset.

If it doesn't reset, then the brake sensor was damage. You will need to replace the brake sensor. It sounds like you replace the brake right after you saw the warning, so the brake sensor should be okay.
