What you are seeing on the gauge is usually caused by a valve problem. It's rare that valves get stuck. More likely you have a worn cam lobe, burned valve or a broken valve spring. Check compression with a compression gauge to isolate the cylinder that's affected, then check the travel of that set of valves compared to the others and look at the valve springs to make sure they are intact. If travel and springs are good then you probably have a bad valve. Of course, make sure that the injector and spark plug for that cylinder are working first as a "dead hole" can also give you some fluctuation.

Run some seafoam through the brake booster hose or any vacuume hose that feeds all cylinders. pour a little more than a third of the bottle through it and pour the rest into the gas tank

My 1996 Quest has hesitation when applying throttle, worse when A/C or Defroster is on.

Hi pressure in the fuel tank would be a vent solenoid problem .EVAP system ! Your hesitation problem could be a TPS - throttle position sensor that is worn . I would find another mechanic , testing , not thinking is the way to a proper fix > exhaust manifold to glow red , plugged catalytic converter . Have the exhaust back pressure tested .

05 dodge caravan fuel pump is good but will not work when the hooked up to van

When you say that the fuel pump is good, do you mean that you did a pressure test on it and it was in specs or do you mean that it energizes? If it does engergize then I would do a pressure test on it to make sure that it has the strength to pump fuel from the fuel tank up to the engine.

My daughter has a 2000 Dodge Caravan 3.8..Its got no pressure in the fuel rail..First i replaced the fuel filter,,Then put in used pump..still nothing..So i returned it and got another pump.Still no...

When you turn on the ignition to start vehicle can you hear a buzzing sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. That sound is the fuel pump pressurizing the fuel system. If you do not hear that noise then the pump is not working. Check fuel pump connection for power, if no power check fuse, relay and ground

No fuel pressure

Sounds like a bad fuel filter, or fuel pressure regulator. If there is no pressure to the rail, the fuel filter is either clogged, or the fuel line is broken or kinked somewhere between the fuel pump and fuel rail.

99 gmc suburban will not start unless pour gas into the throttle body"

IF YOU HAVE CHECKED THE FUEL PUMP FUSE AND RELAY AND THEY ARE BOTH GOOD THEN THERE IS A GOOD POSSIBILITY THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAS GONE BAD. YOU MAY BE ABLE TO GET IT TO PUMP ONE MORE TIME IF YOU BANG ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FUEL TANK WHILE SOMEONE ELSE TRIES TO CRANK THE ENGINE. IT MAY TAKE A FEW TRIES TO GET IT TO START, BUT THIS HAS WORKED NUMEROUS TIMES FOR ME. IF THE PUMP DOES TURN IT MAY NEVER RUN AFTER THIS, SO FIGURE OUT WHERE YOU WANT TO TAKE IT TO GET IT REPAIRED. THE TANK MUST BE DROPPED TO REMOVE THE PUMP. HOPE THIS HELPS. GOOD LUCK. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA

My 1995 Chevrolet Astro-van turns over but won't start

chk. fuse and relay for fuel punp. if that chks. out ok, then you will have to do a fuel pressure test. but after reading your problem, i'am almost positive its your fuel pump. make sure, do the fuel pressure test. all major auto parts stores carry the kit for pressure test, and they also will show you wear and how to hook it up, and what the pressure it should have. good luck.

1999 chevy astro van 4.3 will not start in morning, after cranking for several minutes it will finally turn over and run fine the rest of the day could it be a bad fuel pump or oil pump

I have the same problem, I replaced the fuel pump. Did NOT solve it. i was told that it is a computer problem. The computer is not sending electric to the fuel pump, by cranking it several times the oil pressure builds up and will over ride the computer and send power to the fuel pump. This is a common problem on these asrto vans.

2000 chevy blazer stalled and won't start back up

I would say the car is not getting any fuel. you could try replacing the fuel filter which is cheap. It could also be the fuel pump which is probably in the tank.(try tapping the gas tank with a hammer lightly) If the car starts then it is probably the pump. The last thing i think it could be is that is isn't getting any spark. Take the spark plug wire off the plug itself and put a screwdriver in the hole and make sure it is touching the metal part of the plug. Have someone try to start the car and hold the screwdriver near a piece of metal, if you see a blue spark then the car is getting spark, if you see nothing then you probably have a bad coil.

Possible fuel pump??

What is the year, make and model? One thing you can do to see if the problem is the fuel pump is to hook up a fuel pressure guage on the fuel rail located on the top o the engine. The valve that you hook the guage up to loos similar to the valve stem on a bike tire or car this will tell you if you are getting fuel pressure or not. Another common problem is the fuel pump relay which can sometimes go bad. This is usually located near your fuse block and they cost around $20 dollars depending on which application requires them. Keep me posted.
