Sound like faulty alternator voltage regulator. check alternator out put at battery with engine idling should be 13.5 - 14.5 volts at 2000 rpm if not lower you have faulty voltage regulator.also check alternator drive belt and check alternator for loose wires.besure turn off radio before disconnecting negative battery cable to keep from locking out radio losing code.

If your idle speed is less than 600 RPM, the alternator will not be charging the battery. The idle speed could be low because the throttle body needs to be cleaned. Make sure it is cleaned front and back.

Check the connections at the battery. Loose connections or corroded connections will cause this same symptom.

It is not uncommon for side terminal batteries to also have a problem internally between the mounting button (the place that the cable end bolts to) and the internal connection to the battery.

What sounds like what is happening is the connection is good enough to power up a light load, dash lights, gauges, radio, etc, but when a heavy load is demanded the connection heats up and looses continuity.

I see this issue more on fords but I have seen a fair amount of GM's with this issue.

I noticed my truck didnt want to start like it had a weak battery. I drove it anyway and first my abs light came on, then I started losing all my accessories like radio power windows, etc. I got towed home...

All of you accessories can't run from the battery. The alternator has to produce 13-14 volts to you battery to keep the battery charged fully so all the accessories will work. Soon as a power source is powered on it will drain the battery quickly if the alternator isn't putting out. I would change the alternator. Honestly, If you have a shop close by that rebuilds alternators, this is the way I would go. Here in my home town, a rebuilt is $95 as a rebuilt from auto zone is $140-170 and comes with the same warranty. I use a rebuild shop for all alternators and starters. Cheaper and have never had to take one back compared to auto stores.

Gauges and windows loses power.

You need to look behind the fuse panel and make sure all connectors are firmly seated in their recepticles. You've got a marginal connection somewhere.

2004 f 250 diesel smokeing and losing power

Is the check engine light on? Any more specific info like year, make, model, what color the smoke is, how many miles, etc........ This could help to narrow down the problem other than the smoke which all diesels do with quick acceleration. You might get a quicker answer if you are more detailed!
