Have 1986 thunderbird. You put the key in, turn it, it starts, let go of key and it stops.... sometimes if you let go really slow the engine will stay on.

Replace the ignition tumbler--i.e. get a new ignition set with new key. This will require removing the plastic trim around the steering column and removing the old ignition set. It's a good DIY project, but you should get a Haynes manual for 83-88 T-Bird/Cougar. Try going to a junk yard for the replacement part. Crown Vics, Cougars, Grand Marquis', Lincolns all have the same type of set for those years.

Hope it helps. I forgot to mention that many Bumper-to-Bumper and Carquest parts stores carry Ford-style ignition switch tumblers that will fit your T-Bird because it is a common problem.

Maybe something wrong with inertia switch? Part of diagram so you can see inertia switch wire colors. How long since a tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? Also, use a gage check proper fuel pressure, my info says 35--45 psi. I've seen fuel pumps that would run, but wouldn't make proper fuel pressure. I'm not saying the fuel pump has a problem, at the moment, I don't know?

86 thunderbird... quit while driving.. traced it down to no fuel ... pump is good .. replaced relay ... still not engaging pump ... next step ?

Did you replace the fuel filter. Did you check the fuse? How do you know the pump is good? Just because you hear it running does not mean it is pumping any fuel. A fuel pressure test will verify if the pump is indeed good. If it is the OEM pump I would bet it has failed. It is rare for a pump to last 25 years.

1986 Ford Thunderbird. Turn signal does not

Have you checked the contacts to make sure they are touching the bulb base. I have a 1995 Ford Contour that did the same thing. I took a screwdriver and bent the contacts out very slightly and it has worked fine ever since.
