Maintanance required lighted up and won't disappear

A maintenance required light means some type of maintenance is required on your car. It wont clear until the maintenance is done. Unfortunately you will probably have take it to a dealer for repair and clearing the code.

The Emission Maintenance Reminder System (EMR) is incorporated into the engine Powertrain Control Module (PCM). On 1989 to 1995 models, the Chrysler Diagnosis Read-Out Box 2 (DBR2) is required to reset the EMR.

turn the key to activate the power but not start the ignition, do this a handfull of times. The check engine light should blink a specific number of times, this can be referenced to identify the problem, after this happens the light should turn off until you have another problem!There's a difference between the "check engine" light and the "engine maintenance required" light (aka "Emission Maintenance Reminder" or EMR light). The EMR light is strickly a reminder that emission system maintenance is due. This includes the EGR valve, PCV valve, & Oxygen sensor. It is program to light at approximately 60,000, 82,500, & 120,000 miles. Because its activated by mileage, it does not necessarily mean that something has malfuction. Unfortunately, the only way to reset it is by using a diagnostic scan tool. Of course, you could always remove the bulb.

The maintenance required light does not indicate any problem with the engine or systems like a Check Engine Light (CEL) does. This light is normally a reminder to change the oil. Getting the light to turn off is really easy.

In order, follow these steps:

1. Press and hold down the trip odometer reset button.
2. Turn the key to the on position without starting the engine.
3. Continue to hold down the reset button; The light should go out within 10-15 seconds.

You should not have a maintenance light, as those appeared on the 1998 model Accords and up. My old 1996 Accord had an indicator in the gauge cluster which showed either green or red. To reset it, if you looked beside the indicator, you would see a slot to put your key in to reset the indicator.

The maintenance light will come on every 5k miles.
All of this info is inside your 05 Scion owners manual.
This light is to be reset after every PM.
The vehicles repair record book will show everything that needs to be checked at that service interval.
To reset the light:
Hold the Trip mileage button in and hold.
While holding button in, turn the ignition key to the run position (Don't Start).
You will see the numbers in the mileage screen, turn to (--------) and then (000000). The lines will start to disappear.
When they disappear completely and the mileage returns into view. Then you can let the button go.
If you have done it correctly the light will be out.

First to check with OBD codes reader, this is one advise to fault; when you have this number (code) the clues for solve the problem are more.

First, make sure you are talking about your mainanence required light, and not your check engine light.
Your maintanence required light is telling you that some normal maintanence is required since you have traveled some pre-determined number of miles (pre-determined by Honda). For example, it could mean an oil change should take place, etc. If you keep track of those things on your own, then you need only reset the light, as follows:
Turn off the engine.
Press and hold the Select/Reset knob (odometer) in the instrument panel, then turn the ignition switch just to ON (II). Do not start the car.
Hold the knob for approximately ten seconds until the indicator resets.

This is already covered in the owner's manual, but here it is again as a quick reference.

Every 5,000 miles, a "Maintenance Required" light will blink for the first couple seconds after you start your car. It will continue to do so until it is reset. If it is not reset, than it will eventually turn on your "Check Engine" light. The purpose of the maintenance required light is to remind TC owners to change their oil. The factory recommended interval is 5,000 miles, but you can reduce the interval the light will come on to a mileage interval of your choice.

1. Before starting, make sure that the odometer is not on one of the trip mileage odometers but is displaying the standard odometer.

2. With the car off, press and hold down the odometer reset button. While still holding it, start the car.

3. The light should continue to blink for a couple seconds and than disappear. That will reset the light for another 5,000 miles.

4. The following are steps to change the interval in which the maintenance required light comes on. Right after you turn on the ignition while holding the reset button, you'll notice that the odometer display will show 5 bars. Each bar corresponds to a 1,000 miles. As each bar disappears, the interval will increase (0 bars = 5k, 1 bar = 4k). Release the reset button at the interval you desire.
