SOURCE: does it take a special tool to replace rear brake pads on 2002 hy
hi from uk the rear brake calipers pistons have to be rotated and pushed backwards into the calipers fully so as to enable new pads to be fitted there is special tool for this to make job easy and if you check E BAY garage/tools and equipment pages there are numerous types and different prices dependant on makers ? however you can improvise/make a tool using a a 1/2 inch square drive socket and t/bar +short extension look at piton and you will see it has slots ? cut away an old socket to provide teeth to fit these slots ? then you can both push and rotate c/wise the piston back into caliper or you can buy the tool ? from motor supermarket if you have time ? hope this helps

Once the car is jacked up, remove the front tires, then whith a 12 wrench key, remove the bolt that is located on the rear side of the caliper, not the one holding the brake fluid line buth the one right next to it. Pry the brake pad holder off and then remove the brake pads themselves. You will need to press the caliper's piston in, to be able to fit new brake pads since new pads will be thicker.

rear pad replacement is basically the same as front. 14mm bolts holding caliper and mount on hub then the piston just pushes in

use a screwdriver and pry the piston back into the caliper until it stops then the caliper will come off easily you can pry against the old pads as you are changing them anyway
