No, you don't need to remove the pully.

Here's how you set the timing:

You will need a timing light and a 1/2 inch or 13mm wrench.

1. Take a rag and clean the timing marks on the pulley and the timing cover. If you have any white out type correction fluid, you can also paint the marks white, to make them easier to see.

2. Start the engine and run until it is warm... about 5 minutes (the upper radiator hose will be warm).

3. Shut off the engine and find the timing connector, a grey plastic plug in the wiring harness near the distributor. Unplug the timing connector.

4. Loosen (but do not remove) the nut holding the distributor to the engine.

5. Connect your timing light. The magnetic pickup goes on the number 1 plug wire (number one is the front cylinder in your engine) and the other two leads connect to the battery, red on positive, black on negative.

6. Start the engine and point the timing light at the timing marks on the timing cover. You should be able to see the mark on the pulley as well. Gently rotate the distributor until the timing mark on the pully aligns with the 10 degree BTDC (before top dead center) mark. You might want to scribe a mark on your distributor before you start so that if you accidentally move the distributor too far and the engine dies, you can put it back where it was in order to restart the engine.

Once you have the timing set to 10 deg BTDC, shut the engine off, retighten the distributor nut and reconnect the timing connector.

How do I remove crankshaft pully from kia optima 2005 2.7 liter v6 24 val dohc ?

Remove all the belts on the pulley. Remove the center retaining bolt which typically needs to keep the engine from turning to get it off unless you use an impact wrench. Then you need a puller to push against the end of the crank shaft and pull the pulley off.

Where do i find crankshaft sensor on a 94 mazda 626 ge

You didn't mention what engine size you have but if you have the 4 cylinder 2.0 liter engine, the sensor you're looking for is inside the distributor (sorry I don't have a picture for you). If you have the 6 cylinder 2.5 liter engine there are actualy 2 crankshaft position sensors. The first one again is inside the distrbutor and the second on is kind of hidden but it's by the crankshaft pully. You need to remove the idler pully bracket and the dipstick tube just to get at it. Again no pictures of them but hope I was able to help a little in any case.

Crankshaft pullys drift in and out about one quarter of an inch throwing outside belt also making noise but it doesnt sound internal

your crankshaft shouldn't be moving that much. you need to check to see if your pully is loose or not, if pully is tight to crank and the whole crankshaft is moving that much then the thrust is out on crank and oil pan should be removed and thrust bearing checked. may have to remove and tear down engine to have crank and engine block checked at machine shop.

My 94 honda civic crankshaft snaped off because someone spotwelded the bolt on the pully and the pully fell off due to the crankshaft breaking how do i replace the crankshaft

Motor has to come out and be disassembled. Pull engine, drop oil pan, undo main bearing cap, rod bearings, undo connecting rods and slide crank out. Unless you have tools (and lots of them including engine hoist, you ought to have a reputable shop do the work.

Remove water pump

Disconnect battery earth lead. Do not turn crankshaft or camshaft whn timing beld removed. Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine. Turn engine in normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise stated) Do not turn engine via camshaft or other sprockets. Observe all tightening torques. Remove engine, remve RH engine mounting. Remove auxiliary drive belts, water pump pulley, crankshaft pulley, timing belt upper cover, timing belt lower cover. Turn crankshaft clockwise to TDC on No. 1 cylinder, slacken tensioner bolts 5 & 6. Move tensioner away from belt and lightly tighten bolts. Remove timing belt. Remove water pump and replace with new one. Suggest to replace cambelt as well.
Installation
Ensure timing marks aligned3 & 4. Fit timing belt in anti-clockwise direction, standing at crankshaft sprocket. Ensure belt is taut between sprockets on non-tensioned side. Slacken tensioner bolt 5. slacken tensioner bolt 6. Allow tensioner to operate. Tighten tensioner bolt 6. Tighten tensioner bolt 5. Turn crankshaft on turn clockwise. Ensure crankshaft sprocket timing marks aligned 4.
Slacken tensioner bolt 5. Slacken tensioner bolt 6. Allow tensioner to operate. Tighten tensioner 6. Tighten torque: 20 - 26 Nm. Tighten tensioner bolt 5. tighten torque: 20 - 26 Nm. Apply thumb pressure to belt at middle. Approximately 5kg. Belt should deflect to 1/4 of tensioner bolt head width 7. Belt tention can also be set using burroghs (BT-33-73F) tension gauge 10 at middle. Turn crankshaft 90 ° anti clockwise. Check belt tension is 9.5 16,5kg (engine must be cold). Install components in reverse order of removal. Fit cranckshaft pully. Tighten crankshaft pully bolts 8. G4-J: Tightening torque: 12-15Nm.
G4-N/G4-k: Tightening torque: 10-12Nm

Fix a cambelt on a freelander

start by removing top front camshaft cover ,revealing camshaft sprockets. now jack veihcul up and place on stands. remove left hand front wheel (cam belt side) . remove power sterring belt and alternater belt.looking at crankshaft pully and using an 18mm socket and bar rotate pully until all three marks line up. crank on 1st timing mark and and cam marks facing each other when all three line up you can then remove crankshaft pully , you will need an impact wrench that can torque up to 300lbs .when pully has been removed you can then remove the lower belt cover you will then see the belt tensioner and unbolt and remove , now place a jack with protection under sump and remove bolts on engine mount, when you have separted the 2 halves of the engine mount you can remove the belt and install new belt , k,series cam holder tool is use full for re-alineing cam marks camshaft marks facing each other and crank line up with raised mark on engine block,it is then a case of putting every thing back inthe same order it came off.there are 2 type of cam belt tensioner you can email me and i will tell you how to do each type. Which engine? 4 cylinder (2.4 lit) or V6 (2.7 lit)? Two different procedures as well as different belts. The 4 cylinder also has a balance belt. See next image:
42e8a57.jpg
Here's the 2.7 V6 belt:

44efb27.jpg
The replacement procedure is nearly the same at the start (removing, accy drive belts, pullys, support engine & remove front engine mount, remove T.B covers, disconnect Cam Position Sensor & Crank Position Sensor connectors, etc.). When you get to this point on the V6, you also have to remove the front engine mounting bracket from the front of the engine (4 14mm bolts, also a 12mm bolt which bolts the dipstick tube to the side of it) Put crank shaft at TDC (top dead center w/ALL timing marks aligned) remove hydraulic tensioner (2 12 mm bolts), then remove the belt. You'll need to recompress the hydraulic (auto) tensioner in a vise and insert a retaining pin through the pin-holes at the top (through the tensioner piston) to keep it compressed when you reinstall it. Otherwise, you won't be able to install it. Assembly is reverse order of dissassembly. Inspect your pullys while you're in there (check for pully bearing noise, leaking grease, smooth rotation, also the water pump pully, etc.) Replace components as needed. Careful not to damage Crankshaft Position Sensor wire harness.

The 4 Cylinder is quite different. You not only change the timing belt, but also the countershaft (balance) belt, which is behind the crank position sensor blade. IMPORTANT: ALL TIMING MARKS ALIGNED BEFORE REMOVING ANYTHING) There are two (2) counter-shafts (balance shafts). one driven by the timing belt, the other by the crankshaft sprocket behind the timing belt sprocket at the front of the crankshaft.

How to remove bottom pully bolt 1.6 hdi 307

you need to peg the crankshaft near your gearbox. There is a hole in engine block for this purpose. Find this hole and insert an allen key (thick enough to fit in there). Turn the crank pully with ratchet in clockwise while try to find out the locking hole in crankshaft near gearbox by pushing allen key through engine block hole. You'll hear a click and the allen key goes fully inside. Now your crankshaft is locked and you can open (anticlockwise) the pully bolt.
