This sounds very similar to when the anti theft system fails. Read thru this link. It describes the same type of problems in a 96 regal

Or the fuel pump, if not, the fuel tank sending unit, which is actually the cradle for the pump and a connection for power. I had the same problem, there was a short in the wire. Just replaced the sending unit, about $70, and it runs like a champ. Any problem with the service engine light?

Check your belt on the alternator, it may be slipping, or your alternator bearings may be grabbing causing your alternator to let the belt slide on it. Also check the battery connections, as they maybe corroding and causing interruption of the voltage. Take each connection off one at a time and clean the inside of the clamp with fine grit sand paper or emery cloth. Reclamp.

Slow charge the battery up for 3 days on a trickle charge and see if it still does it.

If it does, maybe a new battery is in order.

Batteries last only 3 years on average.

Good luck.

1995 buick lesabre shuts off while driving, engine runs smooth and then shuts off,,it restarts without a problem,,,,what could be causing this. i have checked my battery connections and they are fine.

Plugged fuel filter. There are two - one in the tank and one in the fuel line. Probably the one in the fuel line so change that one first.
