I hear a popping sound from the rear speakers when the radio is turned off. Stops when the radio is turned on. But randomly occurs whether the car is running or just sitting in the driveway.
I am having the same problem. Not sure how the wires got crossed. This just started without anyone messing with the wiring.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thats Jim. Here is my email address.

If power is more than speakers can handle this will happen. If you have a amplifier in the rear than all it is a fuse or a circuit breaker needs to be reset
Is it a factory amplified system? Could be the volume knob. Might try unplugging the radio for test purposes and see if it still pops and buzzes to get a better idea of where to go next
Hi JPLP, A popping or 'motor boating' sound is usually a sign that one of the transistors is defective. As it happens only when tuning in the radio it is possibly in the pre amp stage. Regards John
Im having the same problem! No pop, just a hum, and my volume dial won't adjust. Like the actual dial isn't working.
I can't use radio, cd, or aux.
Silence SUCKS.
First Visually check all your fuses. Does rig have amp for stereo by any chance? It sounds like amp is bad and/or fuse is blown. Amp is wired between radio and speakers, and a shorted amp would make crackling in speakers when radio is OFF
vent door could be hit something. You might can't see that, you might will need take all dashboard off and look at that. If your car is under warranty then suggest you call the dealer.
hope this help
use a AA battery and touch the wires in the back of the radio that are paired and then listen to hear the popping and crackling sounds from the given speaker it causes no damage and its a good way to find rear and front left and right.then label them.

If that dosnt match with your vehicle try this tip, 1st always find your speaker wires first,Since this is the most tedious part, its better to get those out of the way, 2nd thing Disconnect the battery of the vehicle so you don't blow fuses for the head unit, 3rd, strip back all of the wires that are available to you. Its better to grab the all together and cut them all an equal length to make it neat. 4th Once you have all your wires stripped back - Grab any single wire. Hold it against a terminal on the battery and one by one go through and tap every other wire against the other terminal of the battery until you hear a "pop". When you hear a speaker popping, you have correctly identified the wires that run directly to it. If on the first attempt at popping a speaker you don't find one, pick up another wire and repeat the process. They will eventually come, and the more you identify, the fewer wires you have to mess with, You will need these Items,You'll need some wire strippers, a digital multimeter, electrical tape,9 volt battery
