How to safely remove lense cover from dome light

Unscrew the bulb without removing the bulb housing if possible. Don't break any wiring!

The lens should seperate from the housing. The entire lamp, assembly stays in the roof and only the lens is supposed to pop off for bulb replacement

Remove the screw holding the dome light cover in place by turning it counterclockwise with a screwdriver....Remove the old bulb by twisting it slightly to the left and pulling it straight out. Dome light bulbs can be fragile, so be careful not to break the bulb with your fingers...Slip the replacement bulb back into place by pushing it in and twisting it slightly to the right...Replace the cover. The bulb in our 2005 Outback dome light has been replaced twice---I found the best way to remove the cover is with a dime.

remove the lens cover. take out any screws (then "pop" it out if necc) and lower the light fixture itself. use a simple test light or volt meter to check for 12 volts to one of the wires when switched to the "on" position. if you have volatge replace the fixture. if not, trace the wire back to its switched source. check any wire at each end for continuity with an ohm meter. any reading besides 1.0 (open circuit - a shorted circuit would be blowing fuse repeatedly) is ok. the circuit goes downstream from battery feed at the fuse box, to relays and/or fuses, then on-off switches (including door closed switches) then the feed wire to the dome light, the fixture itself, then the bulb. wiring diagrams with color coding are almost impossible to get off the net for free. you'll need a $20+ repair manual if it goes that far. but cheer up, 90+% of the time it's the fixture. a quick and easy fix.

YOU HAVE TO PRY LENS OFF TO ACCESS THE LIGHT BULB.BECAREFUL DONT CRACK LENS RETAINER WHEN YOU PRY IT OFF TO REMOVE LENS.

The dome light is mounted on the ceiling of the car.
You would need a small flat-end screw-driver, and aim it to the base of the lens cover. Then pry the lens off.
If you cannot remove the bulb with your finger nail, then pry it out at its end. Or simply push back the bulb's contacting spring at the end of the bulb. Then steady your hand to catch it as it drops down.
Replace the lens by pushing it back to its housing.
Test the dome-light if it works. If it doesn't check the dome's door switches screwed to each door frame. Pushing on the door switches several times sometimes refreshes the dome-light. The door-switches can be removed with a medium-size 4-corner screw-driver.
By removing the black covers of the door-switches, their conditions could be detemined. Spray some electrical contact-cleaner on them if corroded, or simply replace with new ones.

You will have to pry off the lens CAREFULLY using a small screwdriver. There are two little plastic protrusions on each long side of the lens which fit into the casement. You can ease the casement away from the lens enough to get it to pop out. Re-inserting it is the same, but probably easier.
Gently, give it a try.

if its the same as an 06 Tundra, you should be able to remove the lense cover from the back of your truck cab with a screwdriver and pull the light bulbs out...Do not remove the screws below the lense cover that removes the fixture, they have a screw insert that will fall into your truck's body and get lost.....hehehehe I learned that from my own experience...good luck!

Look closely at the cover. You will see a small slot. Insert a small flat blade screwdriver, and pry it off. Very easy..
