If the old alternator fails in a big way it would of blown the fuse, regulator is built into the alternator. this fuse can also affect the ecu.
120 amp fuse for the alternator and a 60 amp, with a meter on the live side of the alternator, connect a bulb to the feed and then the other end connected to the shell on a good earth. this will show you if the fuse is blown or not as the feed should go to the battery and as long as the battery has power it will light the bulb. or just use a meter and put on volts and do the same thing should show volts. if engine runs but you have problem check the earthing wire to the shell from the battery as this area can become a problem over time and will need cleaning back to metal and the connections will need cleaning. follow the earth wire from the battery to the shell and you will see the earthing cluster on the shell.

NEW ALTENATOR INSTALLED AND NOT CHARGING THE BATTERY

the alternator needs to see some voltage before it will charge. is the battery completely dead? also ford regulators charge at 12.5-13.5v so don't expect to see the typical 14.5v like most other cars.

Will not charge new battery and alt

You can call a parts store to see if this car/ altenator has a seperate voltage regulator. This is the part that fields the altenator to send out the voltage from the altenator. If it is built into the altenator you have to pull out the altenator to have it checked. I have bought new parts that were bad from the beginning. Very frustrating.

Battery no charge

Either the battery is old and won't hold a charge or your altenator is not putting out enough to charge the battery. If the car is running disconect the positve side on the battery and if the car keeps running then the battery is bad, if it dies then the altenator is bad. Could aslo be a bad voltage regulator, but those are in the module.

The chargeing light won't go off

Usually it means the altenator is not charging and that the car is running on the battery reserve, so the car will run until the battery goes dead. Sometimes the light will come on if the altenator is over charging the battery, producing overly high voltage to your cars electrical system. Not good either..

Transmission rebuilt 5 years ago on a 1997 Eclipse RS. Now, the RPM levels are extremely high even without full acceleration.

The likely cause for your high RPM may be caused by a vacuum leak in the engine. You can open the hood and check your hoses for cracks and leaks. This is a good place to start, but may no be a full solution.

1996 BMW 328 IC Convertible Altenator ok but not charging battery

Sounds like the alternator may be missing an excitation current source.
Check the 'IGN' dash indicator lights when you turn ignition switch on prior to starting motor,
if not one of the below may be problem:-
1) check exiter control wire is connected to alternator D+ terminal (low current wire, +V with Ign on),
2) replace dash 'IGN' indicator lamp.

1997 chevy 1500 wont stay runing

Ok, first, you need a new altemator. When you pulled off the battery cable with the truck running . it caused a voltage spike and fried the voltage regulator, which is internal on this particular altenator. If you want to check to see if the altenator is charging, use a volt meter.

Since it wouldn't start after you put the new altenator on, it could be one of two things, either you got a bad altenator which happens sometimes or, you have a weak battery and the altenator is tryng to charge itself to death.
