I had to replace my left front brakes at 27,000 miles I was told the caliper was sticking and that made the brake wear out prematurely. I of coursr had to have both front brakes. Since then I the brakes make very loud grinding and groaning . They have told me they have replaced everything and this was teh last time I would get free replacement .After the last replacement the noise on the front brake was unbelievable I waited , thinking maybe it was because the parts were new The grinding and groaning seem to have stopped. but when I went in for an oil change ,I was told that I had only 40% left on my left front brakes, this is less than A year cince they replaced everything. I can't afford to be putting on new brakes this often I told them that I still had extended insurance, but was told that I would have to have A brake diagnostion check them and pay him $$100.00 up front so they could check them. I at my witts end I don't know what do do .When I bought my corolla I thought I was getting A good dependable car,not one that I would have to replace the brakes way before than if they were working right. ANY IDEAS? i AM A WIDOW AND i CAN'T AFFORD TO BE REPLACEING MY BRAKES BECAUSE THEY KEEP WEARING PREMATURELY. It is only my left front break but I uam told I have to replace both front brakes so that they aare even Thanks by the way I am76 years old I do not mistreat my brakes, besides it is only that left front brake that is causing the problem

Something is pretty wrong here your brakes consist of a caliper- pads- and rotors. so if they replaced all of this there should be no problem also there is a high pressure line that goes to your caliper maybe they should check that to see if it has collapsed good luck darling

I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem you shouldn't be after brake pad replacement .
This sounds more like the vehicle was in some kind of accident front end and it bent the axle or the cv joint is damaged .
Look at the brake pad the next time you have it repaired the ware on the pad should be even so the ware part on the pad should be flat if one side is thicker then the other it would be noticeable it means the axle is not spinning true its wobbling .Try taking it to a different shop something else is wrong and its making this happen

I would suggest replacing the caliper hoses and following a proper bleeding procedure before replacing the master cylinder

SOURCE: 92 Camry New rotor, brakes Rotor still getting torn up by brakes.

You need to check for any looseness in the wheel that this is occuring, since you haven't mentioned which one. Did you tighten the axle nut enough? Is the caliper brake not twisted so as to not tighten when turning. The calper bracket may be out of line.

SOURCE: I am thinking about buying a 1996 Toyota Corolla Sedan

well it realy depents on if the car was taken care of about the belt cvheck and see if theres any cracks at all on it if not then see if theres more then a half a inch play on it if not then you don't need to replace it and check it every 3 months or if you start to haer a screaming nosie then it's time to replace that about the rear drums that also depends on if the car was taken care of what i mean is are the mile hwy or citie if hwy then you should beable to get buy for know but should start thinking about replacing them in about 3 to 6 months if city miles then you should replace them with in 2 to 3 months or if you hear grinding noises coming from the rear

Testimonial: "Thanks Ace - I had a very bad experience buying a car a 1 1/2 years ago and the bugger died on me in June. I don't want to make the same mistake. "

Metal on metal noise when driving. Sounds like brake noise when brake pads are in need of replacement. Sound goes away when the brake is applied. Car only has 20,000 miles on it (2006).

Hello tgiro7: My name is Roger and I will help with your question. The fact the noise goes away when stepping on the brake pedal says the problem most likely is in the brake area. The pads could be worn out even at 20,000 miles. If the noise sounds like it comes from the front remove the wheels and check the front pads. If the pads are bad most likely the rotors are also bad.Same would apply if the noise emits from the rear. When you have the wheels off check to make sure the calipers will slide in and out on the mount pins. Should they be stuck on binding the pads will wear excessively and prematurely fail. The calipers must move freely on the pins. If you drive with your left foot on the brake pedal? The amount of pressure required to apply the brakes and not stop the vehicle is 1 to 2 pounds of pressure. Wont turn on the brake lights but will put pressure on the calipers. This in turn will wear out the brake pads. Another thing to look at would be an out of adjustment brake switch. Reach down and grab hold of the brake pedal. Give a firm tug on the pedal. Should you feel the pedal give and hear a click or two the switch was set to deep and holding the brakes on.
Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

I have an 2004 Alero and I have to replace brakes every 3 months. What is going on?

you need to have the brake hydraulic system checked for the calipers sticking if you have 4 wheel disc brakes as they can seize on the sliding mechanism causing the brakes not to fully release.also if the caliper pistons are sticking in the calipers this will cause the same problem.make sure you or anyone else that drives your car doesn`t drive with 2 feet as just slight pressure from resting your foot on the brake pedal can cause pressure in the system applying the brakes enough to wear them prematurely but not put the brake lights on.cheap parts also will cause excessive wear.

My brakes are scrubbing and antilock light comes on, also when ever i back up, my front left wheel makes a very loud noise. kind of like rubbing metal. whats wrong?

the noise is probably the ware sensors on the brake pads making noise the noise lets you know that the brakes are getting thin are are ready to be replaced.if you let this go to long you can damage the brake rotors, make sure you check to make sure the caliper is not sticking on the left side being this side is making more noise ,a stuck caliper can cause premature brake pads ware .

I have a '03 Monte Carlo SS and I replaced the rotors at 76k miles and the rotors need replaced again at 89k miles. It shouldn't need rotors again so soon should it?

I wouldn't think you'd need them again that soon. Unless you have some calipers sticking and causing the rotors to get hot and warp. Do you have a shimmy when applying the brakes at higher speeds?

Front brakes wearing out on a 2000 town and country within 2 months. I have replaced both calipers but front brakes keep wearing out

Possibly your rear brakes not engaging? To my understanding that would put the entire load on the front brakes and cause them to wear out prematurely.

Front brakes heat up and sieze both my front brakes feel like there sticking after driving for a while plymouth voyager 1998

Whenever you have new brake pads put on it is best to have the rotors cut. Otherwise they can shudder or grab or any number of things. If the vehicle is pulling to one side or another it could be a frozen caliper. Calipers should always be replaced in pairs. As with all brake work, anything done to one side absolutely needs to be done to the other. Always purchase medium grade brake pads and shoes. Premium pads and shoes are almost always too agressive for any rotor to withstand and will generate excessive heat and premature wear. If your brakes seem like they arent releasing it is most likely the calipers.

It also sounds like a more likely problem is a seized caliper on the left side. If a caliper seizes, the braking system transfers the pedal pressure to the other caliper thus, the working caliper locks up. Pull both front wheels and look carefully at the wear on the pads. Both wheels should have the same amount of wear. If one side is worn more than the other, the side with the least wear is seized and needs to be changed.
Never heard of a hydraulic repostioning valve, but maybe with ABS there is one. I do know of a proportioning valve which apportions brake pressure front to back and also blocks braking to front or back in the event of brake line failure. Maybe see which he is talking about, should be able to explain the difference. Hope this helps.

Bearing problem? in 2006 Pilot

Even though you had the brake pads replaced, and since the sound you describe is a "rubbing" sound, I would suspect that the brake caliper piston is sticking and causing brake drag. The only way to check is to pull the wheel and check the caliper. If it is sticking, it will wear the pad out quickly and wll generate heat. After driving, check for excessive heat coming from the wheel. It could be a wheel bearing, but I would check out the brake caliper first. Sure hope this helped. Good luck.

Brakes on 2003 nissan altima are wearing on one side only. has been repaired repeatedly. After a few thousand miles only one side works other side consquently wears out out fast &then there is a...

Sounds like the caliper on the side that isn't wearing is not working properly. You need to test it to make sure that it is pushing out properly when the brakes are pressed. I can't imagine that it is working correctly. It sounds like the piston isn't moving out and you need to look at replacing that caliper so that your brakes wear evenly and also to make sure you have your full stopping power. Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!

325i brakes, inboard pad worn to zero no wearing on outboard pad

If the pads are not wearing equally, u have a caliper problem. What is happening is the caliper isn't completely releasing when u take your foot off the brake (it's dragging). When u see this, u should either rebuild the caliper, or buy and install a new or rebuilt unit. Whenever replacing pads or shoes, flush out the brake lines. Contaminated brake fluid is the usual reason for caliper failure, resulting in premature brake wear. Also clean up the caliper points of contact and use special brake grease to lube calipers.
