With the engine off, check your operation of the gear shift. If you can go in and out of the gears fine without the engine running, then you have a worn clutch disc that needs replaced. If the problem still exists then you either have low fluid/weak hydraulic system, or there is a problem with the syncro that may be adjusted.

Johnny T, I have the same issues and I just did what you suggested and with the car off the grears go right in, i checked the brake fluid and it's fine is that the same as clutch fluid? or do u have any other sugestions?

I don't know the spec, right of the top of my head, but the hydraulic system is probably going to take DOT 3 brake fluid (it generally does). So you need to make sure that you are checking your hydraulic system and not the brake system. There will be a smaller reservoir close to the brake reservoir that will contain the fluid for the hydraulic/clutch system. You'll need to get your vehicle to your trusty repair shop for an accurate diagnosis.

I have a 2005 Saturn Vue, lately I've noticed my gear shift is super hard to shift into 1st & so on. Is it the cold weather, and if so, is there something i can do to make it manageabl

check clutch hydrolics to make sure fluid is not low. Try double clutching. When in neutral, push clutch in, then out and in again and try shifting into low.

Clutch

Could be, or the clutch disc. First gear and reverse do not have syncro gears, the others do. So the transmission and engine have to be "disconnected" to allow shifting into first and reverse.

Transmission stuck

Clutch hydraulics has air in it or the clutch master cylinder is failing.

What engine? Rear wheel drive ?Sounds like shift linkage or cable out of adjustment slightly. Have a look at where cable or rod attaches to transmission for adjustment. If not sure of what your looking for get back to me with info.
