Hi guys hope u can help me?i need diagram or sum on cam and timing belt set up, thanks 4 ur time..thank julian
Well, I'm a little confused here because there are both a timing belt tensioner and a timing chain tensioner on the car. I'm assuming you have the 1.8T engine as that is the only one I've heard about regarding the class-action suit.
The timing belt tensioner is the one keeping the timing belt in place and running the cylinder head. The timing chain tensioner is up in the cylinder head. The belt drives the exhaust cam off of the crank, and the chain drives the intake cam off of the exhaust cam. It's the belt and belt tensioner that are subject to the class action. The camshaft tensioner in my opinion would be the chain tensioner in the head, but sometimes the timing belt is referred to as the cam belt, so it may be a confusion of terminology. The suit is related to the timing belt and t-belt tensioner - apparently there have been failures of these parts due to their construction or some other factor deemed not to be the fault of the owners of the car. Regardless, the suit only covers the parts expressly stated in the wording (timing belt and tensioner) and will likely not include additional parts such as the chain tensioner, as that is not deemed a wearable item and is not part of the typical timing service (it's only replaced if it fails, which is usually signified by a diesel-like clatter from the top of the engine while it's running).
