Check the dashboard lighting brightness knob to see if it was accidentally bumped with your left knee. It's on the lower left side of the dashboard and most people don't even know it's there.

Turn the light switch on and check your tail lights. Back then the tail and dash lights work on the same circuit inside the headlight switch so if one was out so was the other. If this is the case you need a new headlight switch. If not, there should be a fuse in your panel marked "instr". that's for the dash lights. Hope this helps.

Let 1986 chevy nova get low on oil and now it ticks

It wasn't the oil level. Mine started ticking around 14K and it still ticks like crazy at 168K when the engine is warmed up and cruising. Goes away under moderate acceleration.

There is a thermostatic flapper valve in the exhaust manifold that is likely the source of the ticking when the engine is warm.

Dashboard Lights wont turn on

You have wired something wrong. Find a different power wire for your radio. Best to hook a power wire into the fuse box, and have an inline fuse for you radio. And then run a ground wire to your steering column or something.
If it's not that, then you must have pulled a wire off somewhere, and now it's grounding out and blowing your fuse. Have fun. Wiring sucks!

1986 chevy nova

The Haynes manual is detailed enough to get you through the job, or you can create a free account at Autozone and they have an online manual which also covers this task. I can go through it step by step if you want, but essentially I'd just be regurgitating the information available from these 2 sources.

It's not a particularly difficult job, just a bit cramped, and make sure you have all of the necessary tools to hand so that you don't have to keep climbing out from under the vehicle, that tends to get old really quickly...

Dasah board light problem in my 1986 Mercury Sable won't turn off

This sounds like a relay... check your owners manual for dashboard light relay. Pull the relay and see if the lights go out.. For a quick try to fix, you can rap on the relay with the end of a screwdriver and sometimes that will free up a sticky relay. The good news if it is a relay, its a cheap fix.
