Sounds to be maybe a oil pan leak, may need replaced, As for the smell you may want to take to muffler shop and get your catalic converter, checked. good luck to you.

Where is the transmission stick for the 98 catera?

There isnt one. It only has a filler hole on the tranny itself. It is a sealed unit. Your Cadillac, like many newer vehicles, does not have one.
Instead, there is a fluid levelinspection port, that in your case, is in the oil pan of the transmission. To correctly check the fluid level requires the engine to be running with the transmission at operating temperature, about a 15 mile drive. In addition, the vehicle has to be level.
You can jack the vehicle up evenly on both ends, but a lift is the preferred way. The fluid should be even with the bottom of the threaded opening the transmission pan when the plug is removed.
A quart of tranny fluid with a screw on nozzle will help you add fluid as needed until it slightly flows back out of the threaded plug hole.
Recheck the plug for any leaking of tranny fluid once you have completed adding fluid and reinstalled the inspection plug.

My 98 cadillac catera started spitting and pouring oil really bad and i can't find out where it is coming from

If you can't see the oil, wait for the engine to cool, with the key out of the ignition and the battery preferably disconnected for safety, feel for the oil leak. There are a great many places that oil can be coming from, but large leaks tend to start at the pan or the heads.

Oil leak

Northstar engine, that's about right. They do take about 8 quarts.
The most common place they leak at is at the oil filter housing that attaches to the block of the engine.
