Assuming the car is not running and you are trying to start it, sometimes the steering wheel is locked from the wheel thrying to turn back on itself and this won't allow the key to turn. Try turning the steering wheel all the way to the left or right then while the wheel turned, try to turn the key.

My 2004 saab 93 key wont turn.the lights come on but the little brakes indicator wont light up on my gear slot but my emergency brake is stuck on and it says steering lock malfunction on my s.id

You can't turn the key due to the steering lock malfunction, you now need to have the systems control module scanned for faults. That is the first step to diagnose and repair this fault. You will need a special scan tool for this, so find a shop that has one that will read this Saab system codes.

Why wont my key turn on 2002 chevy impala I need a diagram of swich

If the steering wheel is lock, try holding the steering wheel right in the middle while you jiggle the key, the sweet spot is the mid point, now i get the steering wheel is locked but it still moves a little bit, and press the brake pedal,at the same time, 1=transmission in park. 2=steering wheel in mid point,.3=depressed brake pedal 4=wriggle the key all the way back then go forward..as far as wiring, bypass well i dont wanna teach nobody how to steal a car, gm its got wiring schematics on line.

Key ignition wont turn

APPLY BRAKE AND MAKE SURE STEERING WHEEL IS CENTERED. IF IT IS PARKED SO THERE IS PRESSURE ON THE FRONT WHEELS AND HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL HARD RIGHT OR LEFT IT WILL MAKE THE KEY VERY HARD TO TURN.

Ignition switch will not engage/turn to start car

Hi Beth usually when shifter is stuck there is a locking mechanism and keeps shifter from engaging unless brake is depressed to release the lock. If you hear a clicking sound when pedal is depressed then switch is probably ok and its probably the steering wheel lock. First try with your spare key to start the vehicle(old key may be worn ). If that doesn't do it then try with WD 40 a very little in ignition key hole or on the key work it slowly and see what happens. If none of these suggestions work its probably the steering wheel lock and that requires surgery. Keep me post best of luck

Key wont turn

Many times when the vehicle gets shut off and the wheel is cut too hard to the right or left this will happen....check to see if this is the case....are the tires turned all the way in one direction, and the steering wheel uis locked...if so you need to pull the steering wheel either right or left hard when trying to turn the key to on, if its not this problem jump out your brake light swith electrical connector at the top of the brake pedal....if this wears out the lock out will not work and the key wont turn or come out of gear. Play with the shifter while holding your foot down on the brake, use your free hand on the key trying to get it to turn all the while, if all is in vain you will need a good "car doctor" to check out the ignition switch and locking devices as they may become a bit much for the average DIYer.

Girlfriend put it in park turned off the engine and went in to a store. came out and key wont turn, brake pedal is very firm and the gear selecter cable seems like it in a different place, and the steering...

Either the shifter linkage is out of adjustment or the park/neutral start switch is bad. First thing would be to check the brake switch behind the brake pedal to make sure it has not moved out of placement

My key wont turn. ignition is locked. brakes and wheel are all locked. had it happen before fixed it but cant remember what i did.

If the steering wheel lock is engaged with the wheel turned sharply in either direction - weight of the vehicle at rest on the wheels can cause the steering column and ignition key lock to bind. To get the ignition to turn and unlock, you may have to grasp and turn the wheel or wiggle it a little back and forth to get it to come off the steering lock. This will relieve the pressure and allow you to turn the ignition lock if done right.

Steering wheel getting locked up

I think it is a common problem that while the power steering relaxes and the tyres find a comfortable spot to sit on the road, after you've parked, the steering mechanism can push against the steering lock in the ignition switch. Usually the steering wheel needs a bit of a jiggle while you turn the key. If you were to engage park brake, release foot brake and let go of steering wheel before turning off ignition, it may settle better for you.
