Hi....
On your problem with your Jeep. 00.
JEEP is my Favorite SUV..
I have had 93, 97, 2000, and now 2007.
But the problem of the Air bag Flashing, is common on 99 to 04, years.
If you Have Noticed When the problem start. When you turn the steering whell. Maybe come intermitent.
Is mean some times the light whent OFF.
The problem is The CLOCK SPRING ( Module installed inside of the steering whell).
Come damaged Just due to wear,
You can get this part replaced By a professional. and will fix the problem. I did on my 00.
OK. But all of this ONLY APLIES if the car has not an ACCIDENT or CRASH.
If is the CASE I recomend get the car SCANNED with a Compatible SCANNER to see the right codes, to start fixing,
I did myself . I'm a mechanic.
I hope this help on your problem.
Thank you for use fixya..

Airbag light on or airbag light flashing? ... My 05 Elantra's air bag light flashes 5 or 6 times, then turns off and the Passenger Airbag Off light ...Missing: saturn vue
www.carcomplaints.com/Saturn/Vue/2007/seat...air_bags/air_bags.shtml The 2007 Saturn Vue has 50 NHTSA complaints for the air bags at 63389 miles ... I started my car and the drive side air bag light came on no blinking just on.
The air bag light comes on/flashes when the system detects a problem. When this light is on the air bag system WILL NOT operate or deploy in the event of a collission.
take it to the dealer... or check all that junk that may be shoved under the seats if your car has (smart air bags). some newer vehicles have sensors under the seats that can be disturbed when you shove stuff under the front seats. there are hundreds of possible problems when that light comes on. BTW when that light comes on it shuts off your air bag system to prevent an unintended deployment so you are driving with non functioning air bags if that light is staying on. it rechecks itself every few seconds.
You will need to take your vehicle into to a certified Air Bag Safety Center to do the neccessary tests required on your air bag system, what they dont tell you is the air bag systems on all cars over i believe five years should all be tested by a certified technician in the air bag field, remembber the air bags can be your friend in times of an accident or the contrary, they can be your worst nightmare if they deploy while you are driving without notice, due to a mechanical over looked malfuction.
It is a short in one of the ignition wire, car start, and while drive wire get hot and in short circuit, drain the battery and posible burn the diodes in the alternator. Identify wire and replace
If the air bag light is flashing- that means there is problem with your SRS air bag system. It stored a code in the computer and wont turn off untill the problem is fixed or cleared manualy with a scan tool- note if you choose to clear the code and turn off the light with a scan tool- if the problem with the system is still there the computer in your car will notice it and store another code and the light will come right back on. also Note that if the air bag light or SRS light is on while driving that system is shut down and your air bags WILL NOT go off if you get into an accident. (the same rules apply if your ABS- anti lock brake light is on- the ABS system will not work) the most common problem with the Altimas and air bag codes are the clock spring assembly located behind your steering wheel- (not the air bag itself on the steering wheel) but there is a round thing that turns with a wire connected to it. you have to remove the steering wheel to service. Best bet - go somewhere that has a scan tool and read what code the computer stored. It will tell you what part of the system has the problem.
To manually check air bag codes, turn the key On and push the driver's door switch (at the bottom of the B-pillar) 5 times or more within 7 seconds of turning the key ON. Then watch the air bag light flashing codes. The air bag light will come ON for 3 seconds and then give fast flashes if there is a code. Count the fast flashes as the code. So the air bag light on for 3 seconds and then 8 flashes is a code 8 for the passenger air bag circuit. after counting code
clear codes and see if they come back
If a concern is detected, the air bag control module will communicate by flashing the warning indicator. A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is logged by the air bag control module in a nonvolatile memory. For additional information, refer to Diagnosis and Testing in this section.

When the light is on all the time there is a problem in the air bag system. This is something you will want to take to a service center soon, as long as the light is on the air bags will not deploy in an accident.
