SOURCE: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
I had the samething happen to my Jetta. I took it to the dealer and nothing was wrong.
I would think it's safe to drive until Monday when the VW shop opens.
My 2 cents
SOURCE: trouble code p1647
hi, i work as a mechanic and have just had this code (p1647)on an 02 2.5 ltr x type. got the definition for 02 banks as well. as there are 2 sensors on each bank i took a look at the live data and it showed a slugish response on sensor two(after the cat). unplugging the sensor in the front cat brought up another code for bank two sensor two so this is obviously the right sensor. changed sensor and sent the car out, hope this helps, jon.

replace fuel cap. it's a few bucks at auto zone.
SOURCE: 2005 Pontiac Vibe having trouble shifting 1st 2nd code P2716 MIL
This is most likely due to a bad solenoid pack in transmission. You could have tranny serviced and see if it helps. Poor fluid condition makes valves stick in those.

Many possibilities. You need to bring the car to a parts store for a free scan of codes stored in the cars computer to find out what is wrong. A hand held scan tool is plugged into the cars diagnostic port to 'read' codes. They can tell you code #'s, and what they mean, and suggest what to do to fix the problem. If you have further questions at that point, post the code #'s and questions here.
Whenever
this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating
that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of
lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected
a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM,
SRS, TPMS, MIL, CEL and BCM faults and others) as long as the light
is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic
diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code
that is stored for the problem(s)
Legend of Abbreviations. ABS Anti-lock brake system. TCS Traction control system, TCM Transmission control module, SRS Supplemental restraint system, BCM Body control module. TPMS Tire Pressure Monitor System, MIL Malfunction Indicator Lamp, CEL Check Engine Light.
