The fuel sending unit is located inside the gas tank. Loosen the straps and lower the gas tank and unhook all the lines. On the top there should be a big round disk holding the sending unit down use a hammer or dead blow hammer and a punch to knock it counter clockwise. The sending unit should pop up, save the rubber o-ring that is under it as you will reuse it unless the new sending unit one has one. Pull the sending unit out of the tank. I believe on those ones you have to reach into the tank and pinch 2 clips on the sides to get the full unit out of the tank. Reverse order to reinstall. Make sure ring on top is all the way back on before putting tank back in place. I usually get someone to help with the hold down ring and we both use a dead blow and punch from each side to knock it back into place

Truck starts runs for about 45 mins. then dies and won't start back up for a couple of minutes.

Sounds fuel related. I would start with a new fuel filter. Then check the fuel pump. If that doesn't solve the problem. It may be your EVAP system that ventilates the fuel tank. Just for kix try running it with the gas cap off and see if it behaves the same way. The problem with a clogged EVAP canister is negative pressure in the fuel lines make the fuel pickup not able to pull in any gas. Hope that helps. Good luck.

The input lead to the sending unit should read 8 Ohms if good. If not replace the sending unit or live with it for they are expensive if purchased new
