The handles of the manually operated sliding side doors of my 1998 Toyota Sienna have both broken. One is completely off and the other is dangling.
Looking for directions to try to fix the problem myself.
I replaced both of my sliding door handles this weekend. It was actually pretty easy. Cheapest I could find the handles was a little over $70 each. The interior panel is held on with one screw and 10 nylon clips. The one screw is in the cup holder. Put you hand in the cup holder and push out at the bottom. It pops right off exposing the one screw. I started on the clips from the top at a corner. Seemed to be the easiest place to slide a screw driver under. Once I got the screw driver in, I started working my fingers under the panel. The clips run mostly along the top and bottom about 6 inches from the edge. I made an effort to apply the force as close to the clips as I could to reduce flexing the panel. Once I got the first clip to pop out the other followed pretty easy and the panel lifted right off. Carefully peel back the plastic barrier. The exterior handle is held on with two 10mm bolts. Connecting the short cable was pretty obvious once you could see everything. Now I have to teach everyone to open the side doors very gently! Hope this helps.
OK, here you go:
Pry out on the bottom of the cupholder bottom, relieve 2 clips, pull the bottom out & slide it down
Remove the door trim screw, and pry out on the door panel, relieve 10 clips, pull door trim off
Remove the horizontal upper trim cover at the top of the door; relieve 4 clips
Remove the vertical door trim cover; relieve 2 clips
Remove the window garnish around the handle; pull the small trim cover off; remove 3 screws
This exposes the inside handle
The inside handle is retained by 2 screws.
Put gum on it lol

same thing but i still could open door from the inside until one of my kids flipped the child protector on now i cant open from the inside or the outside no more passengers unless they crawl from the front oh and all of my handles on the outside are broke the drivers side is one minute from completely being broke after that i guess i wont be driving anymore @ 70.00+ per handle why isnt toyota recalling the cheap plastic?????
My sliding driver-side door quits working... this has happened numerous times... what do I do once I get to the handle? Replace it at $110? Or is there a cheaper fix
I am in the same boat or van. Both passenger handles have comepletely broken off. One door won't open and driver side door handle is dangling. If passenger side door goes, we'll have to climb in through the rear. Oh well.
I have a 1998 toyota sienna and i can get parts at auto wrecker but i have to take it off myself. How do I get to the front driver side exterior handle and the center sliding door hinge?
