Turning the key to on causes current to flow to light power draws like the fuel pump, ignition, etc.
But turning the key to start, causes 10 times that amount of current to go to the starter.
So one possibility is that the battery is weak, the battery terminals are dirty, etc., and you just don't have enough current.
But another possibility is that the starter is drawing far more current than it should, from something like an internal short, a frozen engine, etc.

Whn I try to start my 2003 MC Sonoma, the key won't turn in the ignition, the steering wheel won't turnlockedand unable to move the shift lever out of park?

Sounds as if the ignition cylinder has an internal problem. You may have a sticky wafer inside the cylinder. You can try using some WD 40 and inserting the straw inside the cylinder and giving it a good spray. You can also try gently rocking the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the key. With out the ignition cylinder turning, the gearshift will not come out of park nor will the steering wheel come unlocked. Hop this helps

I switched out transmissions in my 1997 4.3 4x4 auto .now when i goto start it everything goes dead whn i turn the key.it worked fine before i put the other trany in.help please anyone?

Look to make sure you didnt accidentally pinch wires between the bell housing and engine. Also check for any ground wires that may have broken off the studs at the rear of the intake manifold. Also inspect the wiring harness above the front driveshaft, near the crossmember, for damage(sometimes falls and rubs driveshaft creating several driveability issues)

Power but no start

If everything goes dead when you turn the key all the way to start, you may just have a very low charge battery. 1st check the battery cable connections to make sure there is no corrosion, and they are tightly attached. Pull out the battery and bring it to a parts store for a free check of the battery's condition. They can tell you if it just needs a charge (and some parts stores will do a quick charge for free also) or if it is in need of replacement. Let me know what they find.

Have power and accessories until key is turned to start

U will need to replace the ignition switch, this is not the key cylinder but the actual electrical switch the key cylinder operated. see photo. I noted that on your model Honda the switch comes with a new key cylinder, you can just use the switch and use your old cylinder over or install the new parts together.
