I have a 1999 dodge intrepid it has been running fine. Yesterday it died and will not restart. I chyanged the crank sensor the camshaft sensor checked the compression and the fuel pressure as well as all of the relays and fuses. I was told it has probably slipped time. Is that where I should go from here or is there another possibility

How many miles are on the car? Why were the components replaced? Was there a trouble code that may have suggested the cause or faulty component?

Is the engine getting GOOD spark and proper fuel pressure?

  • Anonymous Oct 07, 2011

the fuel pressure is fine and it is getting fire. There were no codes. The only weird thing is it is not firing in sequence.

I need crutial info to help, especailly via chat. Perhaps it is out of timing? There is not much more I can really say based on your response to my questions regarding my previous response.

Thanks a bunch. The timing is what I thought and I am taking to have the timing belt changed. I just wanted another opinion to make sure there isn't something else I was missing.

My 1998 dodge intrepid cranks and runs fine but it will quit running and die after a couple hours or so it will crank and be fine untill it happens again never know when

thers a sensor going bad, trying to remember which one . did service engine light come on ? go to auto parts store and have them pull a trouble code out. its a sensor overheating. It might be the MAP sensor , it contols fuel delivery and ignition timing . replace it , also, replacing the OXYGEN sensor is always a good thing too. good luck !

I have a 1997 Dodge Intrepid w/ 3.5L engine. Recently, when I would first start the car in the mornings, it would start and then die. As soon as I tried restarting it, it would start with no problems. Two...

I had the same problem with my 97 3.5l. I replaced the crankshaft sensor and the camshaft sensor and that fixed the problem. Both parts are inexpensive and easily replaced. The camshaft sensor is located on the top of the engine, to the left of the alternator. It is secured by one bolt. The crankshaft sensor is located on the bell housing for the transmission. You have to remove the air filter hose to access this sensor.

I have a 2001 Dodge Intrepid and it keeps dying

Trouble code P0340 means: Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit (Bank 1 or single sensor). Recheck the sensor's gap. Remove the old paper spacer from the sensor and replace it with a new one or if you have a new sensor, make sure you have installed a new paper spacer installed before installing the new sensor. Good luck and it's common for after market cam/crank sensor to be more temperamental then the OEM.

Vehicle Stalls

you should have engine light on and engine codes
if its the cam or crank sensors, shouldn't be the starter i would start with the ingition switch.

Vehicle stalls sometimes

could be either the cam sensor or crank sensor , but I would check the crank sensor first , this sensor will not cause a check engine light either

I have a 1999 intrepid that wont stay running after a few min.

it sounds a lot like the Timing is off. I would locate an Authorized Mechanic to set the Timing.
