Engine miss could be leaking egr valve gasket.clogged fuel injectors.weak coil. low cylinder compression.

  • Anonymous Oct 05, 2011

cylinder compression is at 160 on every cylinder i tested it.. also there is some rush in the fuel (its coming from the gas tank)

  • Jonah Oneal Oct 05, 2011

IGNITION TIMING OFF COULD NEED ADJUSTING. IF IGNITION TIMING OFF ENGINE WILL MISS ALSO.

You may have an intake gasket leak involving these two cylinders. Over time the gaskets will tend to harden up and not seal properly. You can try spraying intake cleaner in the area and see if the miss clears up. I have also used soapy water and spray it in the area. Be sure that it is spray and not a stream or water, and make sure it has a lot of suds with minimal water.

i replaced the intake gasket :P

  • Anonymous Oct 05, 2011

Ok, then I suspect this issue is fuel related, and the timing belt is dead on spec.

  • Anonymous Oct 05, 2011

i replaced the timing belt and the balancing belt too ;) maybe fuel, i just build a fuel pressure gauge, im gonna test it tomorrow and see if the pressure drop when the trouble occur ;)

Fast idle control may need adjustment along with the IAC, however I think it unlikely that this would the cause of misfire. You mention cleaning the EGR, did you clean the EGR passages in the inlet manifold too? On Hondas the exhaust from the EGR is fed into each inlet runner by individual passageways. Over the years these become blocked but not all at the same time. Those that become blocked first cause their respective cylinders to run lean whilst the remainder run richer. This imbalance in fuel mix between cylinders leads to misfire. Eventually all the passageways become blocked and the misfire disappears as all cylinders run without exhaust gas introduction. It was around 94 that Honda introduced an inlet manifold with an access panel on the inlet manifold specifically for the task of cleaning the EGR Passageways. The earlier manifold had metal plugs that had to be removed to permit access which then had to be replaced with new ones once the cleaning procedure was completed. When all passageways are clear this possible source of misfire will be cured.

Sounds like a dirty Throttle Body and dirty IAC (Idle Air Compensator) valve. Get some good Throttle Body cleaner remove the flexible hose at the Throttle Body spray it and wipe it very very clean an old tooth brush works good for getting in there.

Now remove the IAC from the side of the throttle body, careful with the gasket if you want to reuse it. Spray it down good inside moving the valve back and forth as you do let it soak for a few minutes and clean it again. Blow it out with some compressed air and reinstall it. Put some throttle body/injector cleaner in the fuel tank.

Keep us updated.

A check on the spark plugs of the 2nd and 3rd cylinder must tell the story. If you see there is a dirty plug, oil soaked or badly burnt we need to check on the firing and fuel delivery.
First of all check for compression if there is oil smearing, it can be due to weak oil rings or compression rings or a faulty bore in case the engine has clocked a great deal.
Also check the valve settings before the firing - spark intensity of the 2nd and 3rd plugs are confiremed. Check the HT wires to the plugs as you have checked the remaining sections. I hope this must give an indication of the lurking fault.

My 1994 Honda Accord Lx running richemission: failed emission test.

When the mechanical timing "slipped" the valve timing was affected. Valves can be bent if they strike a piston. Have a compression test performed on each cylinder. If the compression is low on any cylinder, likely the cause is a bent valve caused by the mis-timed engine. The cylinder head will have to be removed and the bent valves and valve guides replaced as part of a "valve job."

Are your rpm's low when sitting at a stop light and vehicle warmed up? You could check your TPS (Throttle position sensor) or maybe your egr is plugging up, or one of your plugs or wires could have gone bad, maybe the coil on one of the wires is bad. You really need to plug a code reader into the ECU and see if there is a code being thrown. And NO, all codes will not cause the engine light to come on.

1996 honda accord rough idle and dies

Do the following

Here are the most common causes of idle surge, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake

Idling rough and low on power. Also getting oil in the spark plug wells. Possibly a valve cover leaking? Changed one coil pack and new plug wires, but when I took it apart this time after it run good for a...

Probably valve cover gasket. This oil does not affect operation other than to smoke a bit. Idle and power issues are unrelated to oil. Unless it is missing, power and idle may be fuel mixture issue. Is the engine light on? If yes, get a scan at autozone or advance and report the codes to us. If no engine light, clean throttle plate and airflow sensor with carb or electric parts cleaner. Clean any other parts that have gas flow, such as PCV and EGR valves. Let me know if you have more questions.

1996 Honda Accord Rough Idle Even After tune up performed Changed spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor wheel along with all spark plug wires, changed fuel filter, air filter, spent $150 on fuel injector...

Perform a valve clearance inspection and adjust if necessary. Tight or sticking valves will cause a misfire or rough running concern. Note: Perform valve adjustment when the engine is stone cold. 4cyl: INT 0.26mm EXH: 0.30mm (V6 engine are hydraulic and no adjust necessary.) Also check for a sticking or stuck open EGR valve. For diagnostic purposes only: Remove the EGR valve. Place a business card over the EGR passage and bolt the EGR valve back on. This plugs the EGR ports and if the misfire goes away the EGR valve is partially stuck open and is defective.
Check for low fuel pressure. Check for low compression. Check cam timing. Check for a weak ignition coil. Also don't over look the possibility of worn or broken engine mounts which cause excessive engine movement and engine vibration. -hope this helps
