Hi Tina, I'm of the opinion you should have the fuel filter and fuel pump pressure checked before doing anything else. If the fuel filter has been recently replaced it is most likely defective and collapsing under load, that could also apply if the filter is old, the difference being it may be clogging and blocking the fuel delivery to the fuel rail. Your best bet in this situation would be to start with the simplest things first. Have your car tuned up, ie. spark plugs and wires, egr valve, thermostat. If things still don't change, then it's going to be your fuel pump/fuel filter.

2000 Dodge Neon shudders, dies when at stop die then shakes to when taking off.

Clean Throttle Body and MAF (mass air flow sensor). Classic symptoms of bad idle. The throttle body isn't shutting properly and letting air in. At highway speed it is fine because the throttle is purposely open.

My 2003 Ford Focus dies when idling after a little road trip.

have the check engine light checked at a parts store its usuall free. I would bet its the idle air control motor. This controls the fuel air mixture at idle

Engine cuts out while driving on the highway

JUST SAW, the most common cause of your engine dying and backfiring while driving on highway would be low fuel pressure. check fuel filter for foreign debris. filter may be clogged or restricted, also a weak fuel pujmp. the other thing could also be a stuck e.g.r. valve, this would have some exhaust carbon deposit stuck on the seat of the valve producing a vacuum leak, but it would not idle properly.faulty fuel pump would give you a good engine idle but would starve for fuel at high highway speeds, when the engine needs for fuel for proper operation.

Car dies going down the road

First thing i would check would be the fuel filter. Sometimes, when they first start to give problems, there is enough gas to keep them idling or driving around town, but when you get on the highway they starve for fuel.
