Windshield Washer
When the washer switch is pulled towards the driver, the SASM sends the washer request to the BCM over the LIN. The BCM activates the windshield wash relay (internal to the BCM) and sends a message to the driver side windshield wiper motor. When the BCM activates the windshield wash relay, voltage is provided to the washer pump, directing washer fluid to the windshield. When the switch is released, the windshield wiper motor continues to activate the windshield wipers for 3 additional wipes and then turns the windshield wipers off.
Most newer Fords use the same resevoir for the front and rear washers. Check the owner's manual, it will show you if there is one and where it is located.
Either the switch or the washer motor, or the nozzles are blocked in the front. Have someone select the washer and listen if you can hear the pump running, if not remove the front pump and power it directly from the battery to see if it will run. If it does check the lines and jets for obstructions. Last choice is replace the switch. (Costly and difficult).
Fords have a common problem with their washer pumps. for the last 12 years ford have fitted a plastic mesh over the inlet to the washer pump, this blocks up with the build up of crystalized washer fluid. fords official protocol says to use a small sharp object the size of a pencil to peirce the mesh and allow the flow of water. Also most washer bottles can be accessed via the front wheel arch. simple undo the fixings and pull the innier plastic wheelarch out the way and pull the pump out of the bottle. they are never fixed in just wedged in.
washer jets are clear but after the cold weather no water coming out and pump making no noise is pump knackered if so how do u get at it and is it a quick fix
