At low speed, almost stopped, the abs takes over, you feel the shudder in the brake pedal...no "abs' light on, no codes...all tsb's concerning this problem say to clean the sensors and ring.. i have done this to both front wheels and it still does it...pulled it back apart, cleaned the grease from the sensor rings, cleaned everything again, but problem still exist. Hub bearings have been changed about a year ago, but customer says problem did not start right after that, so i didnt see any relation..When abs applies, the vehicle does seem to favor the left brake , or pulls slightly left...all sensors and rings and harnesses look ok, sensors ohm correctly...every thing i have found on this problem says to clean "everything"...but this hasnt helped....any more suggestion would be GREATLY appreciated........Thanks, Tony
My wifes 2001 tahoe does the exact same thing, i just replaced both front sensors, and BOOM...it still does it ....so that was a waste of 160 bucks....any other suggestions ?My wifes 2001 tahoe does the exact same thing, i just replaced both front sensors, and BOOM...it still does it ....so that was a waste of 160 bucks....any other suggestions ?

Its possible that right wheel speed sensor is dropping out early making the truck think that wheel is locking up. That will activate the ABS and let the brake go on the right wheel which will make the vehicle pull slightly left. The only way to know for sure is to watch the wheel speeds on a scanner and see which one is drpping out first and replacing that speed sensor/bearing assembly.

When the ABS comes into play from heavy braking you will feel a pulsating of the brake pedal under your foot. This is the brake pressure, on off on off as the wheels stop start stop etc. The ABS will not control the vehicle direction but by allowing the wheels to turn under brakes and not lock up you have control of the steering and the direction the vehicle goes. The ABS will not stop you quicker and in fact on ice or loose surface the distance to stop will be increased. As I said all the ABS does is give you steering ability under brakes.. Take the vehicle to an accredited brake shop and have the ABS tested if you feel that it is no operating properly
There's a service bulliten about that problem with rust build-up on the front hubs pushing the sensors out of posistion [ most common on the pickups in areas that use road salt ], it happens mostly at very low speed. The best way to find out the problem is to have the system scanned.
check the rotors for scoring, worn rotors will "feel"like the abs is coming on due to the vibration caused.and will account for the extended stopping distance.
the abs system stops working at 3mph(approx)it wiil not stop the wheels from locking up at low speed(3mph)to check abs working, take car upto 40 mph then, stand on the brake pedal, should feel like a machine gun going off under your foot,it helps you stop in a steered manner.if you do this in the wet,you will notice the wheels skid at the low end.some makers have a switch to tyrn the abs off(in snow)
YOU NEED A SCANNER TO MONITOR THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. THE ABS IS SENSING A SKID AND THE ABS IS ACTIVATED WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THERE MAY BE A CODE FOR THE HUB THAT IS CAUSING THE ABS TO ACTIVATE.
CHECK THE WIRES FROM THE SENSORS FOR BREAKS OR CHAFFING. AN OHM READING OF THE SENSOR SHOULD BE 850-1200 OHMS, AND AND A-C VOLTAGE READING SHOULD BE 100 MV WITH YOU TURNING THE WHEEL BY HAND.
One of the sensors has gone bad and needs to be replaced, the other thing to that would also do that is the ABS sensor is dirty or needs to be re gaped to the speed ring on the hub.
There was a issue bulletin with your Tahoe on the ABS activating under 8 km/h.
Good luck and hope this helps, if not clean out the sensor with brake parts cleaner and check the wire harness and ABS sensor bracket. Re gap the sensor to the speed ring hub. Here is the bulletin.

2001-2006 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe
Take it back, they obviouslymessed up something. It could be the axle/cv joint or they bent one or two brake disk(s). It could be they did't install the calipers correctly, missing parts.
