Sounds like a transmission output speed sensor. The first thing you need to do is pull trouble codes. Most likely the PCM will have a p0700 code which means there are codes in the trans control module. To scan that you will need a multifunction scan tool. You local parts store may be able to help you with that or you may need to swing buy your local shop (they usually charge for this).
If the TCM code has anything to do with the rear output speed sensor than I wouldn't hesitate to replace it. These are very common in all Chrysler transmissions. It will be located on the drivers side of the transmission towards the rear of the transmission. It will have a two wire connector, is usually a light tan/cream/yellowish color, and you'll need a 1" socket or wretch to remove or install it.
