Open the hood of the car. As you face the engine compartment, directly in front of you is the radiator. Just to the left should be a plastic bottle that resembles the picture below. This is where you add coolant. Never add coolant to the radiator directly unless the engine is COLD. The radiator cap is under considerable pressure and can cause injury. I prefer to add coolant with the engine running. Just add enough to the line on the reservoir to Hot or Cold depending on the warmth of the engine. If you're unsure , wait until the engine is cold (a few hours) and just add to the Cold line prior to starting the car.

Hi

Keep a close watch on your coolant .Also it sounds like the sensor is failing or you have a loose wire or short in the wires to sensor. Actually the light is on because the coolant level is low. The sensor is located inside the reservoir tank on the passenger side near the firewall. Fill the reservoir tank to the appropriate level ("HOT" or "COLD") with the proper 50/50 antifreeze mix.

This should shut off the light. It may come on again after a short period of operation and cool down cycle if the level inside the engine is severely low.

I am sure your problem will be solved.

Please get back to me if you have further query.

Thanks

Welcome to Fixya

You need to add few ounces of coolant to the reservoir. The reservoir is located under the hood. It is a white plastic that has liquid in it. Please see picture below of the coolant reservoir.

I have a SAAB 900S and i got the message "coolant level low" is there a specific type of coolant I need to fill it up with or will any "good" coolant do?

Get your owners manual out of the glove box and figure out whether you have an 03 VW TDI or a SAAB 900S. When you have done that look in the back of the manual for recommended coolants and lubricants. You can find this type of info yourself in the manual.

Leaking on the passenger side, next to centre console. Dropping water level in so that it needs refilling almost daily 0.5 litre+. How do you fix it or can get a quote.

your heater core is leaking, need to replace it or u can put a hose connector to by-pass heater, this is done for temporary repair only. under hood look for two coolant hoses that go into firewall of veh. and install a hose connector that is same outside diameter of the inside of hoses & install two clamps to keep pressure from coming out.

I need to replace the heater core in my 1992 f-350 7.3 des.

Heater Core REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Fig. 1: Heater core removal for 1987-88 models 84926006.gif
Fig. 2: Heater core removal - 1988-96 models 84926007.gif
Without Air Conditioning
  1. Drain the cooling system to a level below the heater core. CAUTION
When draining the coolant, keep in mind that cats and dogs are attracted by ethylene glycol antifreeze, and are quite likely to drink any that is left in an uncovered container or in puddles on the ground. This will prove fatal in sufficient quantity. Always drain the coolant into a sealable container. Coolant should be reused unless it is contaminated or several years old.
  2. Disconnect the coolant hoses at the heater core tubes.
  3. From inside the passenger's compartment, remove the 7 screws that secure the heater core access cover to the plenum chamber. Remove the cover. On some models, it might be easier to first remove the glove compartment.
  4. Remove the heater core.
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace any damaged sealer.
