I am replacing the rear brakes does any one have a - 9_30_2011_3_42_10_pm.jpg

The rear brakes do not require manual adjustment. Adjust the shoes by sharply applying the brake pedal several times while driving the vehicle alternately forwards and backwards. Check the brake operation by making several stops while driving forward. The self-adjusting mechanism will sufficiently adjust the rear brake shoes without any manual tightening at the brake shoe adjuster. If the rear brake shoes are manually adjusted, the additional action of the brake shoe adjuster can cause the brakes to become over-tightened and result in binding or overheated rear brakes.

Hope this helps.

2006 Mercury Mountaineer.. brakes going down to floor. Brakes have been replaced

I use a vacuum pump to bleed lines stating pass rear drivers rear pass front then drivers front. ensure the the brake fluid reservoir never goes lo low, or you will introduce air into system. Purchase plenty of fluid and draw out all the old fluid. It will be replaced by new fluid. Sound like you have air in system

95 mercury villager how do I bleed the rear brakes? I replaces lines from the master cylinder to the proportioning block. The brakes are still soft after bleeding them the way I learned in school in the...

The Expert is correct for most situations, gravity bleeding is one method. The problem may be that the safety feature which engages diagonal braking with a floating valve, requires the valve to re-center itself to allow for 4 wheel braking. Sometimes this is a stubborn process.

The prescribed method for bleeding is to start with the longest line first and then work yourself forward to the shortest brake line. If you have the money to spend, a vacuum hand pump with a brake fluid cup attachment is a handy tool. It will have additional uses in testing anything Vacuum operated that you wish to check in later years. This method is a draw method versus gravity or pressure/power bleed method.

I like the draw method because you can see "air foam" and contaminants leave the system and get a crystal clear flow from the brakes. Properly and patiently done, this method is cleaner and can keep you garage floor clean if that matters to you.

Ok i have a 1995 sonoma highrider and im suspecting a bad relay for my tail lights because when i turn on my blinker on the left or right side and hold the brakes the tail lights dim out and the indicator...

dimming lights are a usually a ground issue. find all the body grounds loosen them give them a good wiggle or clean them with sand paper then tighten them back down.20 years to slowly corrode
i'd start there. relays are just low draw electro magnets that contact to allow high draw current thru......they either work or they dont.

You need to bleed the brakes. Starting at the furthest brake from the master cylinder bleed the brakes, ending at the brake closest to the master cylinder.
