I say that they are just throwing things that are possible at you to have you replace those items. Here are a few things you can do to check yourself kinda of a round a bout solution. Does the vehicle start hard or normal? If normal then your starter is good. Take a multimeter to your battery, if it is 12.2 or higher then the battery is good, if its lower then the battery is bad. Now start the vehicle, with the vehicle running if you are getting more then 14 volts alternator is good. Another thing you can do, is go to the local auto parts store and put a load on your battery, if the load tester shows good then its good. With my Trailblazer, I had a short in the dash which was causing my battery to die. I have seen a few clients with Trailblazer that the ground wire was causing the issue.
Jeremy, I appreciate the response, the car starts "normal," and the battery is new. If I remove the negitive battery cable when I stop, I can restart the car no problem, especially if I let the engine cool down. If I do not remove the cable, the battery is incapable of starting the car after only a few minutes. I realize there are 40 things it could be. Do you know if this is common problem with a common solution? I have been researching for a couple days.
Not helping you much by not giving you full disclosure. When the car is running, the battery gauge drops from 13-14 sometimes to as low as 8. When this happens the security light comes on, and I know I will have to let the engine cool over night for the car to start in the morning. Additionally, when the car needs a jump, it will fire right up, so I don't think it is the cables. I have actually run 12 different suggested trouble shoots so far. You said you had a short in the dash. Where exactly?
This sounds like your alternator is going bad, that would cause your voltage to drop. The short I had in my dash was located under the steering column, it was due to the wires stretching.
Thanks again, I'll pull it off and have it tested.
