SOURCE: what are the possible reasons for high fuel consumption?

a low cylinder will cause a reduction in fuel economy. also in the winter months many states oxygenate thier fuel, it helps with emmisions but reduces economy. higher octane fuel usually has less feul economy, drop to the mid grade

SOURCE: ROUGH IDLE AND HIGH FUEL CONSUMPTION - HESITATION

Try checking your Spark plugs (they MUST be the right type, clean, and properly adjusted: and try adjusting your timing. Either or both of these could cause this type of problem Hope it helps. If so, don't forget to rate the answer, will you?

SOURCE: high fuel consumption

change o2 sensors every 60,000 miles and use iridium plugs they will outlast engine.
check engine light will not come on until sensors are completely shot, this also goes for your mass air flow, had same issues with 99 beetle happened at 80,000 miles, changed all three items ended up with 35mpg after getting 24mpg before fix.parts are cheap on ebay.

SOURCE: 2004 Maxda 6 sputtering

hey, I own an 04 v6 mazda 6 as well and recently had that same problem. Its an ignition coil. The thing is that you have to wait until the check engine light comes on to know whick cylinder it is. I replaced all my spark plugs and boots all at once thinking it would solve the problem but it didnt work. It takes a while for the light to come on so what I did was to push my engine and make it come on. Hopefully its one of the the three coils in the front or else it would be a pain to get the back three. Each coil will run you about 50-80 dollars. Call me if you have any questions. My name is Carlos.786-210-1493

Code P0171

P0171 - System Too Lean Bank 1 Share
1 ' Add Comment Possible causes
- Intake air leaks
- Faulty front heated oxygen sensor
- Ignition misfiring
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor
- Incorrect Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose connection
What does this mean? Tech notes
If the P0171 is combined with the P0174 code, it's very likely that the problem is caused by an intake leak. If there are no intake leaks, the next step is to replaced the air filter and clean the air flow meter. If the problem persist the front oxygen (O2) sensor may need to be replaced.
What does this mean? When is the code detected?
- Fuel injection system does not operate properly.
- The amount of mixture ratio compensation is too small. (The mixture ratio is too lean.)
Possible symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Excessive Fuel Consumption
P0171 Description
With the Air/Fuel Mixture Ratio Self-Learning Control, the actual mixture ratio can be brought closely to the theoretical mixture ratio based on the mixture ratio feedback signal from the heated oxygen sensors 1. The Engine Control Module (ECM) calculates the necessary compensation to correct the offset between the actual and the theoretical ratios.
In case the amount of the compensation value is extremely large (The actual mixture ratio is too lean.), the ECM judges the condition as the fuel injection system malfunction and light up the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) (2 trip detection logic).

Does the driving on overdrive mode cause high fuel consumption, because the transmission use the first three ratios mostly?

Driving in overdrive, say on a trip where your speeds are over 65 to 70..Actually saves gas, but using overdrive to drive around town not only uses more gas, but can cause damage to your transmission.

Difference between ford 9 inch and 8.8 inch rear end

The size of the crown wheel gear. Ford 9 inch is a strong diff used in V8 models. The 8.8 is slightly smaller but is still a good diff. The gear ratios will probably be different. Manual gearbox cars have different ratios to automatics. The higher the ratio, the faster takeoff you will have but lower terminal speed. At high speeds , the high ratio differential will cause high engine revs and poor fuel consumption. A low ratio will be mediocre takeoff but allows high top speeds and lower engine revs. (Good for fuel economy if you are mostly highway driving)

What is code p017.2 for a 2002 dodge caravan

This is the closest I've come to the code you are looking for. I searched all Dodge codes and didn't see any with a "point 2" but I found code P0172. According to EngineCodes.com your fuel mixture is probably too rich. This is what the site had to say:

Possible Causes for this Code:
- Faulty front heated oxygen sensor
- Ignition misfiring
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor

0152 coed

P0152 P0152 - O2 Sensor Circuit High Voltage Bank 2 Sensor 1Possible causes - Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2
- Intake air leaks may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 harness is open or shorted
- Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 circuit poor electrical connection
- Inappropriate fuel pressure
- Faulty fuel injectors
eplacing the Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 usually takes care of the problem
Symptoms- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- High Fuel Consumption
- Excessive Smoke from Exhaust P0152 Description The front heated oxygen sensor (or O2 sensor 1) is placed into the exhaust manifold. It detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas compared to the outside air. The heated oxygen sensor 1 has a closed-end tube made of ceramic zirconia. The zirconia generates voltage from approximately 1V in richer conditions to 0V in leaner conditions. The heated oxygen sensor 1 signal is sent to the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM adjusts the injection pulse duration to achieve the ideal air-fuel ratio. The ideal air-fuel ratio occurs near the radical change from 1V to 0V.

I left my VW Jetta 2.0 1995 for about 3 month and that came back and started it. It bacame underpowered and the check engine is on. Moreover it is shaking when I push accelerator. But it was not like that...

here is whats wrong: your car has EGS(ethanol gas syndrome). This probably is what was wrong all along. First; buy a new fuel filter. And buy a can of SEAFOAM. Change out filter, and add SF to tank of at least 1/2 tank of gas. Then let car idle for at least 5 min(even if you must regulate idle with your foot on pedal).<p>
Then take car out for 5-10 mile hard run.<p>
You may have to change fuel filter one more time. What has happened, your car sat all that time, and the corn(yes the corn) created a by product that turns to a syrupy goop and excessive water. It gets in all fuel lines, emission parts, and your tank was full of this when you started it for the 1st time in 3 months. It just pulled it all through the system.<p> After you do this, be sure to add a can of SF every 5000 miles to prevent this problem again. And if you must leave car un-started for a long period, put Premium gas, and a can of SF in it to prevent this. The Gas companies and the EPA sure screwed up on this one. Good luck. (by the way. the light is probably lean mixture. wouldn't hurt to replace oxy sens. or take it out and have it cleaned)
