High pitched noise coming from front of engine only at high speeds. When at low speed, it mainly sound like a higher pitched tire noise. Any suggestions would be helpful

  • Anonymous Oct 01, 2011

One other thing, I used a stethoscope to check bearings. I found one and replaced it, however there is still and strong high pitched noise that comes out 90% of the time. For some reason it does not happen all the time. What I did find though was that there was a high pitched noise coming from the back of the engine where is goes into the transmission. I found this with the stethoscope. I am not sure though what it could be. Would it be something in the transmission or something in the engine. Perhaps on of the crankshaft bearing. Any more ideas would be extremely helpful. Thank you

Check the altenator berrings, also check condition of air pump it may be going out, don;t forget the water pump berrings

  • Thomas Smith Oct 01, 2011

not sure what is causing noise, frount pump in transmission? ,torque converter,?
I don't think a main berring would cause this noise, but i would check oill pressure just to be sure.
I'm guessing that the transmission is an automatic?
If a manual it could be through out berring in clutch

Vibration on 2004 Cadillac Deville

If a hub bearing was bad, it almost always would make noise, more so when changing lanes at higher speed. Outer CV joints make a loud low pitched rattle when turning (corners). Inner CV joints raise hell at high speed- bad shake! Sway links affect cornering and clunk when hitting rough patches of road surface.
Is the vibration worse at 65 than at 50? If so, you are dealing with a wheel balance situation. Find an old time front end shop that will check the balance on the vehicle. You will have to turn off the traction control to do this or use an on-the-car wheel balancer.
If you feel it at some low speeds at it comes back at other higher speeds, then you are dealing with tire roundness. Possible more than 1. More common than we would like.

At high speeds, I here a high pitched squeal coming from the passenger side dashboard. Its like the wind is reflrcting off something and it makes this annoying sound. Can you help me figure this out.

I'd check the passenger side mirror first, make sure it is tight to the window frame, no gaps. It causes a wind noise or whistle. It could be from the outside of the truck, try to pin point. Does noise go away with either window down? Does noise get louder turning in one direction (wheel bearing)? Does it get worse then seem better (could be tire noise)? Eliminate fan motor, and radio. Does it get worse with vehicle speed or just engine speed?

2004 ford freestar 4.2L engine...high pitched

this sounds odd but mine did this when i replaced the wipers. it seems the design of the wiper frame was making a whistle at higher speeds. the freestar wipers are exposed on the window cowl and not hidden so they endure the winds at high speed. it is worth a shot.

Whining noise from front of 2003 impala.higher

Apparently the whine is car speed related and not engine speed. I'm surprised that you didn't say anything about checking the wheel bearings?

Car droning noise

While you are driving, get up to roughly 40 MPH on a road with little or no traffic. Once at this speed, whip the steering wheel left and right as if you were making rapid lane changes. If you notice a change in the pitch or intensity of the sound, it is quite likely that you have a pending wheel bearing failure. The reason that the change will be noticed is because there is a rapid change in load placed on the bearings during lateral moves. Outside of the, the tires alone, can be quite noisy. I drive an old 1981 Mercedes 300TD wagon. I never realized how much road noise was coming from my tires until I replaced them with new ones!

2003 envoy, low speed harmonic vibration in front end

hello have u rotated the tires front to rear then drive and see if u still have the noise and vibration if drive yes while driving slowely turn the steering wheel left to right just a small amount if the noise changes its probably a front wheel bearing if that doesn.t help drive the truck till you get the vibration then let up on the gas pedal does the noise go away if so you might have a bad u_joint but do the tires first how many miles???????
