The thermostat won't affect running cold at an idle. It may give poor heat, or cause an engine to overheat.
You may have a weak or bad cylinder...(as in spark, plug, plug wire, low compression, bad injector etc...)
Also, these are know to have a bad temperature sensor, which will cause it to dump more fuel and run bad, but usually cold only.

Car sputtered to a stop. Rpm ran down to zero and died.

Doubt it had anything to do with the oil change or belts replacement unless they were done wrong. e.g. improper oil or belt placement. Sputtering, as you stated usually comes from the fuel system. Check that.

Why does my 1987 ford f250 sputter when going up

when u are going up a hill this puts a load on the ignition system, this causes any marginal spark plug wires to short to the engine and cause a missfire, this is most likely what is wrong with the truck

How to change the themastat

You follow the big hose from the bottom of the radiator and when it gets to the engine block you will see a domed shaped object with two or three bolts in it , that is the thermostat

Cant find loction of themastat 1994 toyota corolla

I would say it is at the top radiator hose where it connects to the engine. Should be a small part with two bolts on it connected to the engine with the hose connected to it.Take the two bolts out and the thermostat is under it
