2002 Hyundai Accent Logo
Anonymous Posted on Sep 22, 2011

My 2002 Hyundai Accent was low on oil, my son over filled it by 1/2 quart. I set out to have the oil changed. A couple of miles up the road it died, and would not restart, the starter only clicked The tow truck driver said the starter was bad. We had it towed home, and got a new starter, only to find out the engine is ceased. What would cause something like this to happen? My neighbor came over with a socket big enough to fit the crankshaft bold, and tried to rotate the motor, he couldn't do it without a 3 foot long prybar attached to the ratchet.

You dont say how much oil your son put in? How did you know the oil was low to start with? over filling the oil by .5 qt isnt going to hurt anything. Its time for a new car.

Let it break in,Some engine rebuilders use diffarent tolerances.Just keep it to the full line and when you change the oil the first time check it for anything out of the ordinary. You may want to try a differant oil all together. What oil is in it now? What weight/brand of oil?

My 2001 hyundai accent uses a lot of oil though there are no sign of leaks or smoke.

what do you consider a "lot" of oil? some use of oil is normal. 1 to 2 quarts between oil changes is normal for an older vehicle.

If I understand you correctly, you have a bad TPS (throttle position sensor). nothing more. Replace the TPS... the oil cap has nothing in common with the TPS... that's a fact!

2000 hyundai accent 1.5 uses about 1 quart of oil per 200 miles, no smoke visible. Is there some kind of oil seperator that might be causing this or is it valve seals and maybe rings? thanks

Check for leaks around the engine which is a sign that the seal may be faulty and needs replacement. Check also if there is oil in the coolant, that could also be a sign that an oil seal is broken.

Engine oil change - Quantity

Its 3 1/2 Quarts, but you might as well put a full 4 quarts in if it goes through that much. make sure you change the filter aswell! dirty oil will not cause your engine to go through it any faster. Is the oil leaking or is the engine burning it?

Toyota tundera v6 ran for fifty miles 2 quarts low on engine oil! dave

Probably didn't hurt it, my 2002 was ran for 2000 miles 1 1/2 quarts low on oil due to dummies putting only 5 quarts of oil back in it after changing the oil. It takes 6 1/2 quarts. It didn't hurt it at all.

Using to much oil a 2002 accent with 76k. uses about a quart every 1k miles. dop i need to adjust the valves?

That's within acceptable limits according to Hyundai Motor America's standard: For a proper diagnosis, the amount of oil consumed over a known mileage should be checked three times and then averaged. The accumulated mileage divided by the total amount of oil added will give the consumption rate in miles per quart. If the oil consumption rate is greater than 1 quart per each 1000 miles, further diagnosis may be required.

Tapping sound in The engine Head

Sounds like lifter noise. The best solution for lifter noise is, change the oil use a good quality oil , i would recommend a synthetic oil or at least a couple of quarts. Then get a bottle of MARVEL MYSTERY OIL this stuff works good add that to you oil when you change it and that should clear up any lifter noise. Another thing that might help use a higher grade gas a couple of times.
