YOU NEED TO BUY CORRECT SIZE NEW OIL DRAIN PLUG. YOU TO KNOW YOUR THREAD SIZE ON NEW OIL DRAIN BECAUSE YOU NEED THE RIGHT TAP AND DRILL BIT TO CENTER DRILL THE BROKE BOLT IN SIDE OIL PAN YOU NEED A CENTER PUNCH TO PUNCH A SMALL ENOUGH TO START THE DRILL BIT DEAD CENTER OF BROKE BOLT.OIL PAN NEED TO BE REMOVED TO DRILL HOLE STRAIGHT.THIS IN NOT A EASY JOB.EITHER YOU REPAIR OR DAMAGED OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG HOLE. YOU DRILL BIT HAS TO STRAIGHT WHILE DRILLING HOLE DEAD CENTER OF BROKEN BOLT YOU NEED TO MEASURE LENGHT OF OIL DRAIN PLUG BOLT. THEN USE A PIECE TAPE ON DRILL BIT WRAP A PIECE TAPE AROUND DRILL BIT THE DEPT YOU NEED TO DRILL THROUGH BOLT. LIKE I SAY THIS JOB TAKE SKILL AND A STRAIGHT HAND. BECAREFUL WITH DRILL AND WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES. DONT DO THIS FIX IF YOU NOT SURE OF MECHANIC SKILLS YOU WILL EITHER DAMAGE THE OIL PAN OR FIX THE PROBLEM.

Transmission drain plug 2008 jeep sahara

If you don't see a plug on the drain pan under the transmission then that means you will need to remove the screws around the pan on the bottom of the transmission to get the oil out. You will need to replace the gasket when you put the pan back on.

How do I change the oil pan gasket?

Whether it's an engine oil pan (called the 'sump'' in the UK) or a transmission oil pan the principle is the same on all vehicles.
1. Drain the oil

2. Remove the bolts holding the sump/pan in place:

change-oil-pan-gasket-mcgwfbeeztshkxy1nyom2hsg-4-1.jpg The oil drain plug, though depending on your vehicle it may look different:
change-oil-pan-gasket-mcgwfbeeztshkxy1nyom2hsg-4-3.jpg change-oil-pan-gasket-mcgwfbeeztshkxy1nyom2hsg-4-6.jpgNew gasket held in place with sealant
Use a blunt screwdriver -if needed - and prise the oil pan free. remove all traces of the old gasket from the mating surfaces.

Use a smear of sealant to hold the new gasket in the correct position on the pan - this will hold it in place when you refit the pan.

Push the pan into position and put in a front bolt finger-tight. Then put in a rear bolt finger-tight.

Putting in the bolts finger-tight allows you to gently 'move' the pan if needed to put the bolts in one at a time.

When all bolts are in, tighten them with a wrench/socket. Then check them all again for tightness.

It isn't actually a big job .. more 'messy' because of the oil.

Where is the oil plug at on my 1996 jeep ckerokee sport to drain the oil i have no clue on what it looks like? And how many quarts of oil do i put back in?

Oil drain plug is on the lower, side of the engine oil pan(there's only one bolt located there). Your jeep oil requirements will depend on which size engine you have in there.

How do I change the oil on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V6? Where do I locate everything?

You will first need the appropriate tools and equipment on hand before you start. A jack and jack stands to support your vehicle on both sides a wheel chock is always a good idea too. A drain pan to catch waste oil, An oil filter removal tool and either a wrench or ratchet and socket to remove your oil pan drain plug Don't forget your replacement oil filter and manufacturers recommended grade of oil to use. 1st rule be safe change oil when vehicle is not at full operating temp or oil may burn you. When your vehicle is raised and properly supported, open your hood, remove oil cap to allow venting, then underneath vehicle, place drain pan beneath oil pan drain plug and remove plug and set it aside. Allow oil to drain completely then reinstall drain plug and tighten without overtightening. Next place drain pan below oil filter and remove filter, install new filter (tighten by hand 1/4 turn after it feels snug (Do Not overtighten as this will destroy rubber seal and you will have a big mess on your hands) Refill oil with correct amount and weight of motor oil (see owners manual if needed) If you got any oil on vehicle I would clean it off before starting it otherwise start vehicle check for leaks, if all is good removie vehicle from jack stands and check oil level on flat ground to ensure it is full

Will be changing engine oil and want to make sure i do it correctly

first off make sure u have some old rags or a roll of blue shop towels works best. u need to be sure u have enough oil probly five or six quarts. make sure u got ur filter. u may need a filter wrench, not alway but they can stick tight. also a drain pan and a wrench for the oil plug.
first take the key and put it in ur pocket, thats good to do no matter what ur working on because that way no one will start it if your not around or worse under it. ok warm up the engine. carfull not to burn your self but the hotter the better when draining oil. hot oil drains better hot, but hurts on skin.lol. but that how we do it in every shop. ok now take ur drain pan and plug wrench. also a rag. probly fourteen or fifteen mm crawl under the front and look for the plug in the bottom of the oil pan, the big pan right at the bottom of the engine lossen the plug.remember righty tighty, lefty loosy now put the pan under and unscrew the plug all the way and make sure ur oil is going in the pan. now u should still be holding the plug, thats where the rag is needed because its still hot and ur hand will start to burn after a few seconds. ok now if u can see the filter from down there go ahead and take it off. if not go up to the top and do it there. but put the pan under it before you do. ok now u have the filter and oil out give it ten or so to drip. clean the plug good and put it back in. tighten it down right away. never leave a plug not tight. its not a i will get it in a minute kinda thing. never put in an oil plug and not tighten it down. i have seen it happen before. not good. ok now with the new oil filter u need to take some new oil ,just a few drops will do, and coat the ruber ring. then carfully. carfully. carfully put it back in place and screw it tight. carfully i stress. if u miss pull it back out and clean the dirt off. its just like spark plugs. if u miss clean the dirt. u dont want that in ur engine. now tighten by hand and give it a little more with the wrench just to be sure it wont work its way loose. ok last step. new oil. if u have a owners manual it should say how much to use. once u put that much in u still need to check the dip stick because its not a garentee that how much u need. ok oil level says full , plug is tight filter is tight. fire it up and watch ur oil gauge. it should come up within a few seconds. ten seconds running dry and u will burn ur bearings so whatch it. if no oil pressure shut it off in real cold weather it can take up to twenty seconds to prim, at most. ok u got good oil pressure let it run about a minute. shut it off, wait about a minute and check the dipstick again. it it was right at full before u started it it may be a little low because of the filter ,so add a little if needed. thats it ur done. but its also a good time to check or replace ur air filter to. but dont let any dirt get in there ether.

Oil pan will not quit leaking after replacing stripped drain plug

If it IS Leaking from DRAIN PLUG and You Can Not RE-TAP New THREDS into it ( REPLACE the OIL PAN) I Have never RE-TAPED Drain Plug Threds Because I Prefer Original Threds, So Any Customer wiht This Problem, I Advised them to Replace the Whole OIL PAN.
This is What I Would do, The Oil Avalability Is CRUCIAL to The Engines Survival.
