I just replaced the license bulb on my 2004 Odyssey, so here's how you do it: slide the plastic license light cover to the right to unlock it and then pull it straight out and down. It has enough wire behind it to get the entire assembly out. You may have to wiggle a flat screwdriver around the edges to loosen it up a little if you can't slide it over, but don't try to lever it straight out--it might break one of the tabs! When it's out, squeeze both sides of the plastic cover in order to slide out the bulb socket. Pull out the dead bulb and replace it with a new #168 bulb by pushing it back into the slot, then line up the socket with the cover and slide it back on until it clicks (only goes on one way; it's bigger on one side), then re-seat the weather liner around the edge of the plastic cover and insert it back into the hole, sliding it to the left to lock it back into place. Good luck!

Hi,
Their is a plastic lens covering the licence plate bulb. I can be removed by using a flat-tipped screwdriver covered by a shop towel (or tape) on the right side of the lens. It should pop off where you can access the bulb.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: replacing bulbs marker light license plate light

Mine's a 2001, but I think 2002 is the same.
I found this site/question when searching for the answer today.
Now that I had to muddle through it on my own I thought it only fair that I spread the knowledge.

My 2001 has two license plate lights, one on either side of the plate mounting area.
There is a slot at the top of each light bezel that at first appeared to me to be where you might insert a screwdriver or hooked tool to pry/pull out the bezel.
This proved NOT to be the case.
If you forge ahead heavyhandedly in this direction you will risk breaking the lens.
If you look very carefully at the top of the slot you will find a tab that is VERY thin and thus hard to spot at first glance.
take a thin flat screwdriver and insert it gently ABOVE the tab.
Press down gently but firmly, and coax, or lightly pry the lens out.
Once you have it out, rotate the gray plastic piece directly behind the reflector portion of the lens about a 1/8 turn in a counter clockwise direction.
At this point you can access and change the push-in type "OS 12V W5W E1 2GL w0T" bulb.

To reassemble just reverse the directions.
When snugging the assembly back into the license plate area, first position the bottom and then tip the top into position until you feel/hear it click.

Done!

Celebrate your victory over your machine!

Peace,

Rob

SOURCE: License plate lights do not work.

The licence plate lights are in the same line as your tail light wiring assembly. I assume your tail lights are working or you would have got a ticket for that. The wire is either cut, broken or unhooked from the tail light wires (which usually are brown). If you can not find the problem, you can always run a new wire to the tail light wire from your licence plate wire. Then they should work.
Your other problem is that the license plate ground is rusty & not grounding, which would also not let them work, so you should probably check that first. Rick

SOURCE: license plate light replacement

The license plate lights are in the ledge above the license plate. 2 screws keep the lens cover in place. Remove the screws, and the cover comes off. Just pull the lamp out (wedge base) and replace.

Where is the fuse for the plate number light ford escape 2003

I have found that the cars with which I have experience use the same fuse for the license plate light as is used for the tail lights. Not sure why or if yours is different.
So, if the tail lights work and the license plate light doesn't, then the problem can usually be resolved by confirming that the wire is properly connected, cleaning the contacts and replacing the lamp.

Burned out license plate bulb

open trunk,

remove felt liner from rear of trunk, (liner directly behind rear lights in side trunk) should be 4 plastic Phillips head screws. Loosing screws, then slowly peel liner away. You will see 3 nuts on each side, removing these nuts will loosing the rear light lenses, so you can pull the lense away from the body from the out side to gain access to the license plate bulbs. Re-install in reverse order. While in there I would recommend replacing your brake light and reverse light bulb. Hey your already in there might as well do a little preventive maintance.

License plate lights do not work after replacing both of them

They are on the same electrical circuit as your marker lights. You could have a bad ground at the license plate area.
