the brakes must all be good (1st)
the ABS must be 100% perfect, or the ESP will fail.
ESP uses many system functions to stop skids. including the ABS controls.
to fix this , you need a scanner that can scan all systems on this car.

I have a 2010 Grand VItara and the dash lights for ABS lights and ESP lights are on constantly. How do I disconnect them. We HAVE had the breaks replaced.

old post
ok new brake pads. but is not the ABS part under full factory warranty 7 yr. / 100,000 mi.? (over 100k?).
the ABS / ESP system is a tad complex.
ignoring the ABS warnings is a big mistake.
what you should do , is (out of warranty) take the car
to any mechanic shop that has ASE trained mechanics
they all can work ABS, in their sleep ! PROS
did you check the four corner sensors for damage or mud, etc.
Was the system ever breached, that is brake lines ever removed
allowing air into the system.
please do not cut corners on brakes,

Disconnect them> (what, the brakes the ABS box or the lamp>)

and NO, ABS can not be bypassed.

My esp light has come on and it won't turn off on a Audi a3 2006

The ESP system means the Electronic Stability Program. If the ESP lights on the dashboard permanently the ESP system is faulty.
You should access the ESP Electronic Control Unit (ECU) memory for pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. Then you will be full informed about bad pieces (e.g.: brake pedal switch, front right wheel abs sensor interrupted, ...). After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ESP ECU, in other words reset the ESP system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.

Check & replace if necessary the brake pedal switch placed above pedals on the support.

If the problem still occurs you should access the ABS & ESP ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) memored.
Then you will be able to replace bad piece(s) and fix the problem by erasing all DTC stocked inside ABS & ESP ECU, and reset it.

I'm convinced that your brake pedal switch is faulty because the glow plug warning sign went ON after ESP warning light. Just replace the brake pedal switch, see if rear stop lamps light when press the brake pedal, and test the car on the road.
Good Luck!

I have a 2000 Audi TT Quattro (180). Both my ABS and ESP light were on. I took it to my local garage who replaced a front wheel sensor which eliminated the ABS light. After a 30 mile drive the ESP light...

Check bearing and joint/knuckle on every wheel and even on the drive shafts, if there is lack/knocking, that could cause abs and esp light, because sensor doesnt give right information and ecu only records sensor fault but doesnt say why the infromation is wrong.
They changed the sensor but didnt solve the cause!!!

Both ESP and ABS dash lamps came on suddenly on my 2004 KIA Amanti.

The ESP light will come on whenever the abs light is on, this is due to the ESP system cant operate if the abs system is not working. The first thing you will have to do is scan the computer for codes. the computer will store a code whenever it sees a problem and then turn on the light to warn you theres a problem and then shuts down the abs system, there are many auto part stores that scan check engine lights for free as far as the abs system i am not sure you will have to check. the codes will tell you what part of the system has failed. for example there may be a code like C 1201 left front wheel speed sensor, this code will tell you theres a problem with the left frt sensor, it may be the sensor or the wiring or connector but with a little testing the problem can be repaired. the only thing is the esp and the abs are shut down, the car can still be driven you just wont have the abs. good luck and i hope this is helpful.

ABS and ESP lights on all the time. I bought Audi A4 B6 2004 only two months ago. It started in heavy rain.

You must access the ESP & ABS Electronic Control Unit (ECU) memory for pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car (placed in dashboard, under a plastic cover above the ashtray). Then you will be full informed about bad pieces (e.g.: front right wheel abs sensor interrupted, ...). After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ESP & ABS ECU, in other words reset the ESP & ABS system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.
