The windshield wipers and the radio will suddenly stop working on my 1998 Mercury Villager. It will happen while I'm driving and then suddenly start working again a few minutes later. Sometimes everything will be working fine and next time I start the car the radio and wipers are not working again. I also discovered that when this happens the cigarette lighter that I use for my GPS doesn't work either??

The problem you have is the same one I have on my 2000 Mercury Villager van. When the radio, wipers, and cigarette lighter stop working I can tell you it is 100% the ignition switch. On my van it will happen when I hit a big bump in the road or bump the ignition. If I turn the ignition key toward me, to the position right before it turns off the vehicle, all the items will begin working once again. It is a minor aggravation at this point and much cheaper than replacing the ignition switch for now. Eventually I will have to replace the ignition switch.

You could have a short in the ignition itself, which as the keys swing back and forth causes a stoppage in the circuit, Mercury has had that problem for years , check all fuses, and with the wipers check the relay also, as far as the lighter,, they will short out , and most car makers suggest not using them for added purposes since they tend to go bad , they were intended to heat a small wire that draws low amperage,, enough to light a cig , some plug in units require more amps and will heat up the socket , which will then short out, causing damage

1998 Mercury Villager mini van wiring is shredded from a blow out

I would suggest you take the vehicle to a Good Auto Electrician and get him to repair it. The wiring loom on any vehicle is installed as a single bundle of wires so removing and replacing sections isn't usually possible.
A good auto electrician will be able to diagnose and repair the broken sections without having to replace major sections of wiring.

Windshield wipers wont turn but the wiper motor runs

you likely broke the plastic gear inside the wiper motor by turning wiper on when wipers were frozen to glass. you will have to replace the motor.
you can buy motor on Ebay cheap.
you have to remove screen at bottom of windshield for access. remove side windshield mouldings to be abe to get screen off.
watch very, very carefully how you get wiper linkage out or you will have a hard time getting it back in.

Windshield wipers

most of these windshield wiper motors are located right below the windsheld and above hood. you probably have to undo the louvers where the windshield wiper arms are located and it sits in front of the driver side not too bad to swap yourself part itself is about $60 w/old motor turned in
