With no engine light, there is not much of a problem. The engine check lights are generally very sensitive. I would try a tank of premium and see if that straightens it out.

SOURCE: 1997 ram 1500 5.9 wont rev past 2000 rpm

well, the timing on your ram is computer controlled. is the truck in drive when this mis-fire occurs? or at idle? youve addressed part of your ignition w/the cap-rotor-plug wires. did you examine the old cap for carbon tracking? did you install the rotor properly? i know on my '97 ram the dist is feakin' buried in the engine it would be easy to rotate the rotor while installing/removing it so the timing mark is off. does your engine have the right plugs installed? your plug wires follow the correct firing order with your dist? you did not mention anything about your ignition coil. here is how to safely remove and check your ignition coil. disconnect battery-at the coil disconnect the lead wire (TOP) and primary (BOTTOM) from the coil. label your wires, or take a pic of your ign coil before you remove it so if you forget where the wires go, you have reference point. remove mounting screws and remove coil. clean coil to remove rust/dirt and wipe coil terminals off. inspect case for damage. with a multi-meter, check coil primary resistance by selecting ohm's and then place + and - leads on the pos/neg terminals on the coil, dodge used 2 brands of coils either a "diamond" or a "denso" primary resistance for the diamond mfr'd coil will be between 0.97-1.18 ohms. secondary resistance 11,300-15,300 ohms. Denso primary resistance 0.95-1.20 secondary resistance of 11,300-13,300 ohms. to measure secondary resistance place one of the leads to one the primary terminals and the other lead attatch to the large center terminal. compare your readings to the above values. if your readings are not within range of the above values, your problem is the ignition coil. other causes you may consider is faulty: speed sensor, throttle pos sensor/trans issues like bad pressure solenoid (actuates gear changes) a fault in your overdrive system. hope i have helped!

SOURCE: 2004 Dodge Stratus acting up...

200 is a bit high unless it is a mechanic shop, usually a fuel filter will run about 25-50 dollars and that is on the high side, it is a fairly easy thing to change most of the time.

in any case that will likely correct your problem of not then you will have to drop fuel tank and clean fuel pump and tank with mineral spirits

i hope i was able to help solve you issues this evening, if you have need for further assistance do not hesitate to ask, and I ask you to please remember to rate your expierence with FIXYA.COM as it helps all who use the website

SOURCE: My 1998 Dodge caravan started missing and chugging

Catalytic converter sounds plugged up. The popping back through the throttle body kind of gives me that suspicion. EGR valve stuck open could give that too, but I would think either one of these would throw a computer code.

2002 Dodge stratus takes longer than usual to start.

Fiter is inside the tank... thanks to overly clever automotive designers! But I would check the fuel injectors first, as a leaking injector will flood the engine and cause a too long start, caused by the engine clearing the excess gas from the affected cylinder(s).

Other things to check: proper fuel pressure (weak pump or misbehaving pressure regulator), proper battery voltaje during cranking (a weak battery will turn the engine but the computer could be receiving too low voltage). Best luck. Amclaussen.

I have a 1999 Dodge Durango and when I start it up and give it gas, it dies. This has happened several times. I replaced the battery about a year ago and I just got gas two weeks ago and two days after...

Hello--

Well--if it only happens when you get gas and you fill up when on E then there is something in your tank like water or rust.
If you can make it to an autoparts store like Oreilly's they will check the codes (engine light) for free and help you to find the problem.

The only other things I can think of would be a sensor, injector, pump, or gas cap not on or tight. Pull the codes first though.

I hope this helps!

Clogged fuel injectors- i am having a problem with either my fuel filter or injectors. i used some cheap injector cleaner for two tanks and the problem went away for a week. i filled the tank again without...

Check your plugs. Using cleaners can clear the clogged injectors but the junk they burn off sometimes ends up on the plugs and can foul them out. You may also have water in the gas tank. Using Dry gas additive for a few tanks will fix that problem. If the plugs are good and you have good gas in the tank (sometimes running the tank low will dredge up garbage and clog your fuel filter) then changing the fuel filter would be the next step.

Dodge stratus misfire, runs rough has random misfires in cylinder 1,3,and 5 and a vacuum leak, I,m not too worried about the leak unless it is related to the misfire

I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP AND ROTOR.MARK LOCATION OF ROTOR OR MAKE NOTE SO YOU CAN INSTALL NEW ROTOR IN CORRECT FIRING POSITION. IF THIS CAR HAS A LOT OF MILES I WOULD REPLACE DISTRIBUTOR CAP, ROTOR.SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES.REPLACE IGNITION COIL.CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS, FILL GAS TANK UP TO 3/4 TO FULL TANK OF GAS POUR CAN SEAFOAM IN FUEL TANK IT WILL FLUSH OUT THE FUEL INJECTORS WHILE ENGINE RUNNING OR DRIVING CAR. REPLACE FUEL FILTER. REASON I SAY DO A TUNE UP PROBLEM COULD BE MINOR FIX.COULD NEED TUNE UP.IF TUNE UP DONT HELP THEN YOUR PROBLEM IS DISTRIBUTOR OR THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR INSIDE OF DISTRIBUTOR.THAT WOULD SET OFF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT.BUT I WOULD SAY TUNE UP COULD FIX PROBLEM.

I had the same problem with my 98 Stratus.....i ran out of gas and wouldn't start afterwards....checked the pump because i thought maybe it overheated due to running without fuel in it to cool it.......but that wasn't it.....It turned out that the crud in the bottom of the tank went and plugged the fuel filter up.....changed the filter and voila......it's good as new.....hope this helps you out.... =-)

I have 104000 on my dodge 2004 stratus I take good care and its been good to me. Its missing I got a mis fire in # 1cyclender code . Relaced the coil plugs and wires. Ran good for a few days now its back...

You need to get a fuel pressure test on your fuel manifold. Since you've done the electric parts it's time to check for weak gas pressure. It can give you a miss-fire at one or more cylinders. The test is fairly simple but can eliminate a whole system early in the process. Next after this is a compression check which is more difficult and involved.

1998 Grand Prix ...Last week I got gas when running real low and was in a rush. In my haste I noticed when I was leaving the ground around the tanks was dug around there. a couple days later my car started...

If I'm understanding you correctly, you believe you got contaminated gas from a station where they had recent work done on their tanks. If that's so, Now that you've run most of the gas out I would start by changing the fuel filter then fill the tank with good gas (I might even go up on grade for this tank). Although it's unlikely you may have gotten a fair amount of dirt or water, you may want to try adding some dry gas in case there is still water in the bottom of your tank.
If the new filter seems to clear the problem but it come back after a short while you'll need to take the tank off and flush it. If you do it yourself don't dump the gas on the ground. If you have to flush your tank you'll need to flush the gas lines and replace the fuel filter again.
