I can not find the cabin air filter access to remove the filter. Is there a filter in this model? My blower motor resistor went bad. I replaced it with a new one, but it produced a melting plastic smell. Is this normal with a new resistor? Other sites suggest there may not be enough air flow (ie clogged filter) to cool the resistor. Or could the blower motor be going bad and drawing too many Amps?
Thanks for any ideas!

The blower resistor in a Toyota Townace Noah with a 3S engine is typically located near the blower motor, which is responsible for directing air into the vehicle's cabin.
Here is a general guide on how to locate the blower resistor in a Toyota Townace Noah with a 3S engine:
Locate the blower motor: The blower motor is typically located under the passenger side dashboard, near the footwell.
Identify the blower resistor: The blower resistor is typically a small rectangular or cylindrical component that is connected to the wiring harness near the blower motor.
Remove the blower resistor: To access the blower resistor, you may need to remove the cover or the panel that covers the blower motor. You can then unplug the wiring harness and remove the mounting bolts to remove the blower resistor.
Note: The location and accessibility of the blower resistor may vary depending on the specific model and year of your Toyota Townace Noah with a 3S engine. If you are unsure about the location or how to access the blower resistor, it is recommended to consult a professional mechanic or the vehicle's owner's manual.
It is important to handle the blower resistor with care, as it can be easily damaged if not handled properly. If you are not confident in your ability to replace the blower resistor, it is best to seek assistance from a qualified mechanic.
Hi,
If you are unable to reach the resistor, it is likely that it is located behind a panel or cover. You may need to remove the panel or cover in order to access the resistor. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for more detailed instructions on how to access and replace the resistor.

the fan speed resistor is new
you bench tested the blower motor
12 volts test ..only runs it at full speed
if cabin filer want changed the blower motor would run hotter
could be the motor brushes or bush/motor bearing when slowed
you might want to inspect the brushes and clean the dust out of the motor
if no better
does that have climate control ?
might be the fan switch itself or the earth isnt so good
The blower motor resistor is under the dash on the passenger side of cabin to the left of the blower motor. Remove panels to access it. The resistor is the one with blue wires going to it on the left of picture below.
Remove the big black cover with the round end under the glove box where the cabin air filter is. You'll see it attached to the fan box.
If the resistor is blown, there is probably a good reason. You should also check the blower itself so you dont end up changing the resistor again in a few days/weeks when it blows out again because the blower motor is starting to go bad. My 93 had some noise in the blower bearings for a while when "I didnt have time" to change it.. finally my resistors burned out for the lower settings and I ended up changing everything and everything worked great then. My dad went through 3 sets of resistors before finally changing the blower motor like I told him to do the first time
Check the cover for the environmental cabin filter. It is located on the far right side of the cowling right below the right windshield wiper. There are a few torx screws that secure the cover and then it pulls out to reveal the cabin filter. The cover (being poorly designed by VW) cracks and during rain the rain runs off the window and soaks the cabin filter. The water from the soaked filter then drips down into the blower motor and shorts out the resistor module at the bottom of the blower motor. The blower will continue to operate at full speed because it is operating on an open circuit without need for resistance for the resistor pack. There is a small access "panel" at the bottom of the blower motor you will need to remove in order to see the problem, you should see a frighteningly burned looking module in there. Good Luck! Hope this helps!
If you have 150k on it, you may need all three. Run the engine, turn on heater, and get out and slam the hood a couple of times. In extreme cold or hot weather, this may get you by for a few days. I went 3 or 4 months with a bad blower by doing this, when the brushes inside the motor went bad. If it does not work, your blower is probably bad. The switch can have bad contacts, and you may try moving or holding it vertically to see if you can get any activity out of it. Put a resistor in too, if you have to replace the blower motor.
