step by step instuctions are available at most parts stores and can also be downloaded from certain websites..I have done both the full and midsized gm models and its not that hard if you get all the tools...good luck
normally, you replace the rear brake pads every other change in the front brake pads. for your case, it seems that the front brakes are the only ones working.
bleed your brakes to check if rear brakes are still working. after bleeding, check your brake master if it puts pressure equally to the 4 brakes.
here is some instuctions on how to do the brake pad replacement this should help you out
Jack up the vehicle on a secure metal part of the vehicle and place jack stands in the same area.
2
Lower the jack until the weight of the car is solely on the jack stands.
3
Loosen the lug nuts and remove the wheel from the vehicle, exposing the brake system.
4
Loosen the caliper slide pins from the rear of the caliper and slide the caliper pins out of the caliper.
5
Remove the caliper from the brake system and remove the old brake pads.
6
Secure the caliper to a part of the suspension with a bungee cord to avoid it hanging by the rubber brake hos, where it could be damaged or start leaking.
7
Loosen the two bolts that hold the caliper bracket to the vehicle and remove the caliper bracket.
8
Pull the rotor from the vehicle.
9
Measure the thickness of the rotor with the micrometer. Compare the measurement to the "minimum thickness" stamp on the rotor or the manufacturer specifications in the repair manual.
10
Take the rotors to a machine shop to have them resurfaced if they are above specification and need resurfacing. Verify the manufacturer's recommendations in the repair manual, as rotors do not always need to be resurfaced or replaced.
11
Reinstall the rotor on the vehicle.
12
Place the caliper bracket back on the vehicle and hand tighten the bolts on the back of it.
13
Torque the bracket bolts down to the manufacturer specifications in the repair manual.
14
Place a new hardware kit in the caliper bracket and set the pads in the hardware.
15
Press in the caliper piston with the caliper piston tool to allow the caliper to fit over the new brake pads.
16
Slide the caliper over the brake pads and reinstall the caliper slide pins.
17
Torque the caliper slide pins to the manufacturer's specifications.
18
Replace the wheel on the vehicle and torque it down to manufacturer specifications located in your repair manual.
19
Lift the vehicle off of the jack stand with the floor jack and remove the jack stands.
20
Lower the vehicle to the ground and remove the floor jack.
21
Press the brake pedal several times to pressurize the brake system before test driving the vehicle.
22
Drive the vehicle, performing several hard stops to make certain the brakes are operating properly.

For front brake pads replacement you need only usually wrench set, inclusive 7 mm allen key also. But for rear brake pads replacement you need obligatory a special caliper piston pressing tool, in order to press back rear caliper piston with parking brake automatic adjustment!!!
For front brake pads. First you must verify yours front brake disc diameter: 280 mm or 288 mm. (On my car y have 288 mm). After that you can buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow:
1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose!
2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper.
3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease).
4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier.
5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston.
6. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary!
7. Push piston back into brake caliper housing.
8. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward).
9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier.
10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm.
11. Install both caps.
12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! Check brake fluid level and top up if neccessary!!!
